Our Championship Season is off to an amazing start with some incredible performances at the NJ YMCA Bronze Championships at the John Witherspoon Middle School in Princeton over the weekend.
Our 38 attending qualifiers swam 96 Career Best Times. In a sport where success is often defined in hundredths-of-a-second, some of these drops exceeded 10 seconds: Cody Ryerson dropped 10.04 in his 200 IM; Carissa Song knocked off 11.64 off of her 100 Back; Jacob Conklin trimmed 13.73 from his 100 Back; and Elizabeth Enriquez sheared 16.59 from her 100 Fly! And there were many more big drops!
With last year being one of the most successful in team history, we were thrilled to have had 5 new Silver times earned at last year’s Bronze meet. We doubled that this year with 10 new Silver times earned by Hannah Calderon (100 Back); Elizabeth Enriquez (100 Back); Brooke Gardner (200 Free, 100 Fly); Sydney Harding (50 Fly); Madison Miller (100 Back); Hannah Soutter (200 Back); Vinnie Dellechiaie (200 Fly); Harry Malile (100 Back); and Jacob Pacholarz (100 Back).
And, often a rarity at Bronze Champs, 4 YMCA State times were swum by Elizabeth Enriquez (50 Free, 100 Fly); Madison Miller (50 Back); and Hannah Soutter (100 Fly)!
The Swordfish dominated the top spots with 54 Top-10 finishes (up from 24 last year), including 7 First Place finishes by Viniie Dellechiaie (200 Fly); Elizabeth Enriquez (100 Fly, 50 Free); Brooke Gardner (200 Free); Harry Malile (100 Back); Maddy Miller (50 Back); and Hannah Soutter (100 Fly, 100 Free).
The title picture shown here has also become an overnight Instagram sensation, posted on SwimSwam’s account, with over 3,000 likes in the last 24 hours! “Are you a Heat Sheet?”
Congratulations to all of our Bronze swimmers, and good luck to everyone at Silvers!
