Westchase Swim Lessons Offered Beginning Feb. 1

Do you or someone you love need to learn to swim?

If so, the most experienced and talented swimming instruction staff in Coach Alex Richardson’s three years with TBAY Westchase is poised to help swimmers of all ages improve their water skills.

Rather than wait for the summer, the swim lessons are open to residents and non-residents beginning Feb. 1.

Eight lessons are scheduled during February, either on a Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday cadence. Beginning in March and running through Aug. 4, nine additional sessions will include eight or nine lessons apiece.

“We are really excited about another great season of the swim lesson program,” Richardson said. “Due to the high demand of lessons last season, we have extended the program with more sessions and more hours of availability. We can’t wait to continue to serve the community with this important program.”

The swimming lessons are designed for swimmers 18 months and older. For swimmers 18 months to age 3, lessons are geared toward teaching water safety and confidence while building foundations the swimmer can use to continue in the program. For stronger swimmers (generally ages 4-8), lessons help swimmers learn and understand the four basic strokes while teaching water safety. The lessons will help develop basic skills that could allow them to consider advancing to the TBAY Westchase swim team.

For swimmers 8 and older, lessons are designed to teach swim team fundamentals so swimmers can be ready to join the team and succeed in all types of swimming environments.

The swimming lesson staff thoroughly knows the Westchase program. In fact, every member of the staff is a TBAY Westchase product, including the head coach and assistant coach. Coach Alex and his sister, Jordan Richardson, bring a combined 20 years of experience in swim instruction.

Also instructing will be TBAY Westchase leaders, former standouts, high school captains, school record-holders and state qualifiers. The staff includes Tiffany Quach, John Dang, Kaylee Folta, Isabel Minnis, Daniel Harris, Matthew Reinecke, Katelyn Rosenblum and Lauren Sellers.

“Our staff this year has grown to meet the needs of the program,” Richardson said. “Our instructors this year are all members of the swim team and have grown up in our program. They are excited about giving back to the team and helping to pass on the knowledge that has made them successful in their own swimming careers.”

Lessons will be offered in the evenings during Sessions 1 and 2 and in afternoons and mornings during Sessions 3-9. The greatest availability of lessons will be during the summer sessions. This includes Sessions 5-9, from May 30 through Aug. 4. Cost for the eight-lesson sessions is $95 for residents and $124 for non-residents. For the nine-lesson sessions, the cost is $105 for residents and $137 for non-residents.

TBAY Westchase co-hosted a meet with St. Petersburg Aquatics Jan. 23-24 and is set to compete in two February meets – the Gasparilla Races on Feb. 5-7 and the SPA Last Chance Meet on Feb. 27-28.
