For the first time in our team’s history, four SCY swimmers have qualified for Y Nationals. Coaches Linda and Kurt escorted Emily Haudek, Emily Rothamel, Samantha Russell, and Jake Riva as they joined swimmers from 208 teams from around the country at the YMCA Short Course Nationals in Greensboro, NC. Their 17 splashes yielded 7 new team records and 6 Career Best Times!
Emily H swam the 100 Fly, 200 Back (time trial), 100 Back, 200 Free, and 200 Fly. The veteran of the group, this was her fourth time at Nats, a milestone for our team, and had some great swims. We are going to miss her as she leaves us to become a Golden Ram at West Chester University in the fall!
Emily R swam the 200 Back, 100 Back, 200 Free (time trial), and 500 Free (time trial). In her second trip back to Greensboro, she had a fantastic meet including two Career Best Times (200 Back, 200 Free) and a cut for next year’s Nats (200 Back).
Sam swam the 200 Breast (time trial), 100 Breast, 50 Free, and 200 IM (time trial). Also her second time at Nats, she had a stellar run earning a Career Best Time and a cut for next year’s Nats (100 Breast), as well as four new team records (50 Free, 100 Breast, 200 Breast, 200 IM).
Jake swam the 100 Back, 200 Free (time trial), 50 Free (time trial), and 100 Free (time trial). Our youngest boy ever to qualify, he swam three Career Best Times (100 Back, 100 Free, 50 Free), a cut for next year’s Nats (100 Back), and three new team records (50 & 100 Free, 100 Back).
Aside from competing against some of the best swimmers in the country, the crew had a blast, managed to catch some pool-side sun, and even met Olympian Cullen Jones.
Congratulations to the swimmers on their achievements! You made us proud!
