Record Breakers at NCS Age Group Champs!

Congratulations to the following swimmers who broke YOTA Team Records at the 2016 North Carolina Swimming Long Course Age Group Championships!

8 & Under:

Curry Jennings broke three team records over the weekend including one of the oldest still on the books - a record that was 22 years old! In the 50m Back, Curry swam a time of 42.07 to break Mark Nowell’s former record from 1994! Mark’s time was 43.17. In the 100m Back, Curry broke his former record (1:29.91) from the YOTA Summer Splash with a time of 1:29.36. His final record of the weekend came in the 200 IM when he swam a time of 3:14.85 breaking Tyler Bolduc’s record from last year.

9 – 10:

Lily Welsh broke three team records of her own in the 9 – 10 age group over the course of the weekend. She swam a time of 31.10 in the 50m Free to break Brianna Grover’s record of 31.31 from 1999. She broke Brooke Morgan’s record from 2012 in the 50m Back 37.08 with a time of 36.68. To finish the weekend Lily swam the 50 Fly in a time of 34.19 to break another Brianna Grover record of 34.64 from 1999.

Lucca Battaglini broke a record that was held by former YOTA swimmer and 2012 Olympian Charlie Houchin from 1998 in the 50m Free. Lucca is the first 10 year old boy from YOTA to break the 30 second barrier in an individual event with a time of 29.94.

11 – 12:

Jonathan Prucha, the lone 11 - 12 recorder breaker, broke a record held by Jay Baker in the 100m Fly. Jonathan swam a time of 1:06.21 to best Jay’s former record of 1:07.00.

13 – 14:

The ladies 400 Free Relay team of Maria Baric, Brooke Morgan, Mathea Myhrvold, and Jackie Taylor shattered the previous team record with a time of 4:01.52 finishing in second place overall. The previous record of 4:08.27 set in 2013 was held by Marissa James, Sam Medlin, Jordan Kohut, and Misha Neal.
