FAST Welcomes Coach Michael Walker

With the short course season right around the corner, it is with great pleasure we announce the addition of Head Coach Michael Walker to the FAST family.   Michael, who was born and raised in Bridgeport, has an accomplished swimming career spanning from the Wildcatters swim club to Bridgeport High school to West Virginia University where he was recognized as an Honorable Mention All-American swimmer after placing 11th at the NCAA championships in the 400 IM.

After graduating from West Virginia University with a degree in Sports and Exercise Psychology, Michael joined his former WVU Head Coach Sergio Lopez Miro at the prestigious Bolles Swim School located in Jacksonville, Florida. Michael remained as an assistant coach under Miro for five years before becoming the head coach of the Guatemalan National Swim Team at Guatemala Aquatic Federation.  While Michael is thankful for his international opportunities and experiences, which have no doubt helped him to grow and develop as a swimming coach, he has always wished to return to the Mountain State in an effort to promote the sport he loves and to be close to friends and family.

We are encouraged that Michael plans to continue building and expanding on the strong foundation that Coach Pat Snivley has provided for the FAST program since its inception in 1997.  FAST has been blessed with many amazing coaches throughout the years and we have no doubt that Michael will continue in that proud tradition.

The FAST Board of Directors has worked closely with Coach Michael to develop swim groups and practice schedules for the 2016-2017 short course swim season.  New FAST groups, practices schedules, and fee requirements are attached.  At this time, FAST fall registration has been scheduled for the dates of August 29th, 30th and 31stfrom 4-6 PM at the Feaster Center pool with the first official practice beginning on September 6th.  Coaches will be conducting swim evaluations during the registration times to determine appropriate swim group. Additional information regarding the swim season will also be available including the 2016-17 meet schedule. An official parent meeting will be scheduled in September to answer any questions and to review coach/swimmer expectations. As always, we appreciate your understanding and patience as we begin the transition to a new swim season.

We are looking forward to an exciting swim season for our FAST swimmers and we hope to see you all on the pool deck! Should you have any questions or concerns prior to registration please email Coach Michael Walker or the FAST Board of Directors at
