July Swimmers of the Month

National Group- Ian Johnston
Ian has been an absolute animal at practice and had a great Senior Champs.  Ian had huge drops in 400 Free (27 seconds), the 800 free (6 seconds), and earned lifetime bests in 200 back and 400 IM.  Ian is always very positive at practice and takes leadership of his lane.  Great job, Ian!

Senior Group- Harrison Stevens
Harrison has been working hard this summer and it paid off at the PAAC Firecracker Meet.  Harrison had lifetime bests in every single event he swam!  He dropped 46 seconds in his 200 free, 16 seconds in 100 breast, 15 seconds in his 50 free, 20 seconds in his 200 IM, 11 seconds in 100 back and 12 seconds in 100 free!  What a fantastic meet!  Keep up the hard work, Harrison!

Gold Group- Francesco D'Avella
At Junior Olympics this past month, Francesco put on a performance for the ages.  He won four events- the 50, 100, 200 breaststroke and the 400 medley relay, and qualified for finals in everything he swam.  Francesco broke a whopping 9(!) team records and finished the meet in third for overall points in the 11/12 boys age group.  On top of his phenomenal races, Francesco is a very hard worker who has a huge heart and is always striving to be better.  Congratulations!

Silver Group- Jovannie Avila
Jovannie enjoyed a very successful month of July, highlighted by a Firecracker meet in which he was 7/7 with best times.  While in the past Jovannie had been almost exclusively a sprinter, He and Coach Kyle had recently discussed him putting a little more focus on the longer distance events as well.  He really turned it up a notch at practice throughout June and early July, and emerged an excellent all-around swimmer at Firecracker.  With huge drops of 33 seconds in the 400 free and 14 seconds in the 200 free, Jovannie has shown that this winter he will be aiming for JO cuts in just about any event he sets his mind to.  Way to go, Jovannie.

Bronze Group- Garrity Ford
Garrity had a stellar month of July as she had incredible results at the two meets she attended; the Firecracker Meet and JO’s. The Firecracker Meet was her first time in a long course meters venue. Her results included five JO cuts. Two weeks later at JO’s, she improved her times in four of her events. She also set a team individual record in the 50 Backstroke. The icing on the cake for her included her participation in the record-setting Girls, 10 and under relay team (consisting of Garrity, Reva Gandhi, Simone Lin and CeCe Traub), who set two new team standards in the 200 Free Relay and the 200 Medley Relay.
