Swimmers Put NJB on the Map at Holiday Classic

In what has become the premier mid-season meet for the region’s finest swimmers, athletes from across New Jersey and as far away as Maryland and upstate New York converged on Rutgers University for the 30thAnnual Holiday Classic, hosted by Eastern Express. There were 47 teams competing; some with over 100 swimmers in attendance, and some with as little as one.

Just qualifying for this meet and getting in is notable.

Our 6 qualifying attendees, braving some challenging weather, had an amazing weekend. They competed against some large teams with long-established programs, placing 27th out of close to 50 teams. This crew brought our up-and-coming team much recognition with 5 appearances in Finals, Sectional times swum, 8 top scoring places, a slew of Gold times (of our 28 Gold times swum, 17 were new ones), and 23 Career Best Times.

With some events boasting 100+ swimmers, NJB grabbed a few top 16 scoring places. Peyton Berg (9-10) had a great weekend, scoring in the 100 Free (15th) and 200 Free (8th), and 500 Free (6th) as well earning Gold times in all of her swims. Jake Riva (13-14) had stellar performances scoring in all 5 of his finals swims in the 100 Back (2nd), 100 Fly (3rd), 100 Free (3rd), 200 Free (8th), and 50 Free (2nd). All Gold times, his Back, 50 and 100 Frees were Eastern Zone Speedo Sectional qualifying times. He will be off to either Ithaca or Buffalo, NY in the Spring!

And there were a ton of other great swims, including 23 Career Best Times, proving these guys aren’t done getting faster!
