KKW Represents at Age Group Champs in Fairbanks
Four members of KKW recently traveled to Fairbanks for the Alaska Age Group Championships meet hosted by the Northern Area Aquatics Committee. The girls’ team, represented by Sariah Smith, placed 18th out of 18 teams, while the boys’ team placed 8th out of 18. Combined team scores placed the Killer Whales at 14th out of 20 teams that competed. The team also accrued a 71% improvement in best times over 28 swims.
Sariah Smith placed her highest finish at 6th in the 100 Fly, contributing 1 point to the team’s overall score. She dropped 6.78 seconds in the 100 Fly, in addition to several of her other events. Sariah shaved 19.06 seconds off her best times in five events. She tied for 17th place out of the 10&Under Girls.
Levi Buker improved his finishing places in most of his events, moving up the podium stand from his prelims rankings. His highest finishes were 2nd place in the 100 Fly and 200 Fly in his age group, and he earned 23 points total for the team. Levi’s biggest time drop came in the 200 Fly, where he improved his time by 4.78 seconds. He dropped a total of 14.04 seconds over the weekend in six events. Levi placed 3rd out of the 13-year-old Boys.
Trevor Dash earned 30 points overall, scoring at 4th place or higher in all of his events. He won the 100 Fly with a time of 1:21.72. Trevor dropped an impressive 8.24 seconds in his 200 IM, and shaved 16.38 seconds off his best times in five events over the weekend. He placed 5th out of the 10&Under Boys.
Kyan Klinger also accumulated 19 points for the team, with his highest finishes at 3rd in the 50 Back and 50 Fly for his age group. Kyan also had impressive time drops, with his biggest improvement coming in the 200 IM, swimming 8.08 seconds faster than his previous best time. Kyan improved his best times by 26.55 seconds while in Fairbanks. He placed 7th out of the 12-year-old Boys.
