Darrick Thomas to join Viper as Head Coach

WESTFIELD, IN (March 13, 2017) - Westfield’s Viper Aquatics swim club has hired Darrick Thomas as the Head Coach for the year-round swim program. Thomas is currently the Head Age Group Coach at Carmel Swim Club and will join Viper at the conclusion of the current Winter season in March.

“We are so fortunate to have Darrick join the Viper family,” said Andrea Todd, Club President. “He is a skilled professional and comes to us with the highest recommendation of his peers. We were very impressed with his experience and desire to move Westfield swimming into a new era of growth and competition.”

Thomas, a Kentucky native, has over 20 years coaching experience at the age group through collegiate level, including Western Kentucky University and club programs in Kentucky, Tennessee and Indiana. Prior to returning to Kentucky in 2010, Thomas was the head coach at Zionsville Swim Club and an Assistant at Zionsville High School from 2005-2010, a period that saw a significant growth and achievement in both programs and several high school sectional championships. After four years working with programs in the Bowling Green Kentucky area, Thomas returned to Indiana after being hired by Carmel Swim Club.

“I’m grateful for the opportunity to become part of the Viper family,” said Thomas. “I’m eager to take on the challenge of growing the program and increasing our footprint in Westfield.  Swimming is both an athletic endeavor but more importantly a life skill.  I plan to build Viper into an athletic program that allows our youth to compete at the highest levels of the sport, as well as providing lessons and other aquatic programming to Westfield residents that promote the safety and lifelong health benefits of swimming.  I’m excited to get to know the athletes and families of Viper and the Westfield community.”

Enrollment for Viper’s summer competitive season will open on March 18 for returning swimmers, and March 27 for new swimmers. Viper will also be offering a six-week “Spring Training” program from mid-April through May for swimmers looking prepare for summer swim leagues or newer swimmers looking to develop skills before joining a competitive program.
