2017 YMCA NATIONALS!!!

2017 YMCA NATIONAL MEET! So much fun!!! So many really nice swims!!! So many points earned that the Eau Claire YMCA placed 12th overall in the Men?s Division of meet!! So proud of ALL of our YMCA National competitors who swam best times to qualify for their events and compete at a National Event!

Highlights from the meet include: Friday swims and finishes: The Men?s Open 400 Relay placed 14th with a new time of 3:06.60! Splits were Ben Redman 45.62, Andrew Vierbicher 48.41, Sam Chumas 48.67, and Paul DeLakis 43.90!

Ben Redman placed 11th in the 100 Freestyle with a new personal best time of 45.59, a drop of .64! Ben also led off the 400 free relay in the preliminary session with a time of 45.58!

Paul Delakis broke his own YMCA National Record in the 200 IM, swimming a very close race with Grant House from Countryside YMCA. Paul posted a time of 1:45.76 resetting his record from 2016 of 1:46.36!

Carissa Henderson swam the 100 Freestyle in prelims and posted a time of 54.66 placing 163!

Thursday swims and finishes:

Emily Ries swam the 100 Breaststroke in the preliminary session with a time of 1:08.76, placing 126th!

Brianna Peterson competed in the 50 Freestyle in the preliminary session with a time of 25.19, placing 177th in that event!

Carissa Henderson also competed in the 50 Freestyle and placed 120th, with a time of 24.76!

Ben Redman swam the 50 Freestyle in the preliminary session with a best time of time of 21.02, earning him a place in the B Final in the evening session! Ben placed 12th overall in the finals of this event with a personal best time of 21.01!

Paul Delakis competed in the 100 Breaststroke and placed 2nd in the event overall, with a time of 54.19!

A fun swim to watch and to cheer for was Lily Borgenheimer from the Chippewa Valley YMCA swimming the 100 Breaststroke! Lily swam a personal best time of 1:04.79 in prelims, then dropped even more time in the finals posting a time of 1:04.45, and placing 20th overall!

Wednesday swims and finishes:

The Women?s Open 200 Medley Relay team placed 52nd with a time of 1:50.79! Carissa Henderson Backstroke 28.07, Emily Ries Breaststroke 31.22, Brianna Peterson Butterfly 25.61, and Haley Jones Freestyle 25.89!

The Men?s Open 200 Medley Relay team placed 31st with a time of 1:37.41! Andrew Vierbicher Backstroke 26.78!, Paul Delakis Breaststroke 25.44, Ben Redman Butterfly 22.82, and Sam Chumas 22.37!

Paul Delakis competed in the 400 IM in the preliminary session, swimming a time of 3:55.01 qualifying as the leader in the evening finals! YES! YOU CAN race the 400 IM twice in one day! In the evening Final Session, Paul raced the 400 IM and finished 1st with a time of 3:49.02!

Ben Redman swam the 100 Backstroke, posted a time of 53.14, placing 76th!

Tuesday swims and finishes:

We started off the morning swims with Brianna Peterson competing in the 100 Butterfly! Brianna swam a new best time of 58.24 to place 81st! Very nice!

Ben Redman was up next in the 100 Butterfly! Ben placed 31st with a time of 51.32!

Paul Delakis competed in the 200 Breaststroke! In the preliminary session, Paul swam his very best time of 1:58.37! In the finals Paul placed 3rd overall with a time of 1:58.56, just off his very best time!

The Women's Open 400 Medley Relay placed 54th with a time of 4:05.55! Carissa Henderson Backstroke 59.61, Emily Ries Breaststroke 1:09.45, Brianna Peterson Butterfly 1:00.57, and Haley Jones Freestyle 55.92!

The Men's Open 400 Medley Relay placed 36th posting a time of 3:34.14! Andrew Vierbicher Backstroke 57.07, Paul Delakis Breaststroke 54.77, Ben Redman Butterfly 52.93, and Sam Chumas Freestyle 49.37!

Monday swims and finishes:

The Women's Open 200 Freestyle Relay placed 54th with a time of 1:40.67! Brianna Peterson 25.05, Emily Ries 25.25, Haley Jones 25.89, and Carissa Henderson 24.48!!!

The Men's Open 200 Freestyle Relay placed 11th in the Preliminary Session Monday night to earn a spot back in the finals!!! Their preliminary time was 1:24.93! Ben Redman 21.12, Andrew Vierbicher 21.93!!! Sam Chumas 22.08, and Paul Delakis 19.80!!! In finals the Men placed 12th overall with a time of 1:25.14!!!

Missy Franklin was at YMCA NATIONALS and gave a very compelling talk about what it means to be a competitive swimmer from her point of view!! She also signed autographs for swimmers and fans!! Overall a very wonderful experience for all of our swimmers attending! Very proud of all of our YMCA MARLINS!!!
