Snelling and Weinberger Inspire Swimmers

17 Silver Otters age 11 – 13  attending the 4th Victoria Training Camp April 14 – 22 had an opportunity to meet and hear from Derek Snelling one of the worlds greatest swimming coaches and later in the week from Richard Weinberger, an Olympic Medalist in Open Water Swimming.

Snelling spoke to the swimmers at the camp they were staying at in Nanoose Bay. Coach Snelling talked about developing success patterns and about the importance of being the best at something – and then building out from that point. He  emphasized the importance of sleep and time management  as  critical steps in preparing for major competitions .

Weinberger met with the group at Saanich Commonwealth Place on Friday after their LC practice. Richard talked about his career first as a pool swimmer and about his transition to Open Water Racing. He talked about what it was like to be a “little kid” 100 lb swimmer in 12th grade and about how he was able to learn about success from both his coaches and by observing faster swimmers.
