Hello Swimmers and Families!
Welcome to the 2017 season! I am thrilled to begin my 3rd season as LMT’s Head Coach! We are welcoming back some great assistant coaches this year as well as some new faces joining our coaching staff so please check out our website to learn more about them. There are many practices and events that take place throughout our short ten week season so the Parent Board and Coaching Staff will strive to keep everyone well informed. I will be sending out a weekly e-mail to keep you all updated.
Also, please check the website ( www.lmtswim.com ) on a regular basis. Key areas to look at are: Events (you must be signed in to view events and sign up for jobs), Team News, and Team Calendar. All the dates for the season can already be found on our thorough Team Calendar!
Here are a few reminders for the first week of practice:
**The first day of practice is on Tuesday, May 30 . There will be NO PRACTICE FOR 8 AND UNDER SWIMMERS TUESDAY, MAY 30. 8 and UNDERS will begin practice WEDNESDAY, MAY 31 .
* *New swimmer evaluations will take place the first day of practice, Tuesday, May 30 from 5:30-7:00. Please arrive between and 5:15pm and 6:45. Click here for more information regarding new swimmer evaluations.
With limited pool time due to pool operating hours and school being in session, you will notice some crowded lanes during after school practices. I assure you that our coaching staff will do their best to continue to provide a quality practice regardless of space.
** Practice Schedule: Practices are held every day (Mon-Fri) after school for all age groups. (Morning practices start Monday, June 19) Please see the website by clicking here for more specific times. Make sure your child attends the practice of his/her specific age group. No exceptions. I understand some children do not get out of school in time for the 12 and Up practice, so do the best you can to get there as soon as possible. I do not need to know if your child is unavailable for a specific practice, however, when we begin dual meets, it will be very important to let me know if your child will be attending a dual meet.
Please make every effort to attend practices consistently (unless you are practicing with your year around swim club). With spring sports and school still in full swing, I realize many swimmers will miss practice until school is out. If you can only make part of a practice on a particular day, still come! The first three weeks of practices set the tone for the season and are where most drills are taught and early conditioning takes place.
**Please arrive to the pool at least 10 minutes before practice begins so you can be ready to start practice on time. Don't forget to wear/bring athletic shoes and socks for dryland. Dryland will consist of cardiovascular, upper, and lower body strengthening as well as flexibility and team building exercises. These age appropriate exercises are an important component in each swimmer's program and add many benefits to their swimming and diving experience outside of the pool.
During practice, it is important and necessary that swimmers have the proper equipment:
--A positive attitude
--Suit: Jammer or brief swimsuit for males, one-piece swimsuit suitable for diving for females.
--Goggles: comfortable and well-fitting goggles Click here for an example: https://www.swimoutlet.com/p/speedo-vanquisher-goggle-1642/?q=1&sayt They also have this style in a “junior” version and in many colors.
--Swim cap or hair tie
--Fins (Fins should be long blade with closed ankles . Write your name on them – prominently - with a permanent marker- no scuba fins, please). All swimmers will need to have fins for every practice. You can buy fins at many local sporting goods stores or online. Click here for an example: https://www.swimoutlet.com/p/sporti-floating-swim-fins-23058/?color=12816
--Athletic Shoes/socks for Dryland Practice
Do you need new equipment, a new practice suit, or are interested in purchasing spirit wear? Please check out our new online store through SwimOutlet.com . When you make purchases with this link, a percentage of proceeds are given back to our team as a fundraiser.
Remember: Please label your child’s equipment and clothing with a permanent marker.
Your child (and parent/caregiver) must bring their pool membership card to get into the pool for all practices. Due to pool regulations and for the safety of your children, anyone under age 11 must be walked to the coaches at the start of practice and picked up from coaches after practice ends. To reiterate, children under age 11 may NOT be dropped off at the pool entrance. Parents of children age 11 and over should make a habit of coming into the pool area to pick up their children as well. Because all the coaches will remain on deck at the conclusion of each practice session to begin the start of the next session, if parents opt to have their kids wait for them outside the pool gates there will be no supervision and the safety of your children cannot be monitored by our coaching staff.
Parents, please keep a good distance from the pool deck during practice times. It is often distracting to your child, other children, and the coaches when parents are present on the deck. Feel free to watch from the grass areas surrounding the pool. If you need to speak with your child, if they are upset, or if they need extra help with their equipment, a coach will bring them to you.
I realize that some of you may have questions or concerns that are not addressed on the website or in my weekly emails. The best way to reach me is by leaving me a note in my mailbox on the door of the swim team office. During practice, it is important that coach’s attention is on the swimmers. I will not be regularly available through e-mail during the swim season. Our team President, Sandy Borowsky, is available via e-mail should you have any administrative questions. Her e-mail address is email@example.com.
I thank you again for being a part of the LMT Swim Team Program and look forward to seeing you at the pool!!
