June Long Course Meets
The 2017 Long Course Meet season is well underway.  On the first weekend of June,  fourteen WAVE swimmers competed at the Pirate Plunge III meet in Brown Deer, WI at the Walter Schroeder Aquatic Center.   For many of these swimmers it was their first experience of racing in a long course pool.   This was a huge jump in the number of swimmers that participated in Pirate Plunge last year from our team.

On Father's Day weekend our team hosted our first ever Long Course Meet at the Sparta Family Aquatic Center, the Sparta Long Course Sprinter.  56 Wave Swimmers participated in the Meet and we were  joined by and additional 18 swimmers from the Stevens Point YMCA, and Wausau Ways.   The fun two day meet created a fantastic  opportunity for our swimmers to swim up to 4 individual events a day and post lots of new "Best times"for Long Course.  The times also served as a first time benchmark in a Long Course Pool for over half of our swimmers that competed.  Even though the Meet numbers were a little lower than we had hoped this year I'm sure these numbers will grow in the future with the potential for this meet to become one of the largest Meet fundraisers for the entire year.   Having lower numbers helped to reduce the stress level this first year and gave us an opportunity to work out the kinks of moving timing equipment, supplies and officiating outside the familiar walls of the YMCA.

On the Tuesday following the Sparta Meet twenty-five  of our younger swimmers participated in the first Summer League meet of the season at the La Crosse Country Club.
This was a Short Course yards Meet.   The meet started earlier than it had in the past and it ran much smoother than last year.    It was great to see how much some of our Wave Swimmers have improved in a years time!!  (It's one of those things I love about my job!)

This coming weekend many of our swimmers are off to the Fairfax Meet in Eau Claire for some more outdoor
Long Course swimming.  28 swimmers have signed up for the meet from WAVE.  This is the largest signup for an away Long Course Meet for the WAVE since I came here to coach in La Crosse!!   Having larger numbers in attendance will allow more of our swimmers to participate in relays!!!
