We have had some questions about swim meets for the coming year. This email will attempt to answer those questions and point members toward championship meets that we hope you will put on your calendar early so that we can have our best showing.
There are essentially two types of meets, invitationals and qualification. Invitationals are generally open to all USA certified swimmers and qualification meets require swimmers to achieve a time standard in order to enter. Any time achieved at an invitational or a time trial can count toward a qualification time. Most of the qualification meets are championship meets in which team scores are tallied. You can tell if a meet requires qualification times when you click to commit to an event in Team Unify. Qualification meets will only show events for which a swimmer has achieved a qualification time. Of course, if you ever have any questions please contact your coach who will help your swimmer know if they are qualified and select appropriate events.
The following are meets for the 17-18 season. The meets in bold blue are qualification meets. You can see all planned meets and events at the Alaska swimming site. These events will also appear on the Chinook site as meet directors make the vent files available. Please mark you calendars for the following meets:
1 8/26 State Fair Invite: Invitational open to all swimmers, Palmer Pool

11 4/13 Aqua Dog 50 Free Spring Challenge - Open to all swimmers
12 4/26-28 Ak Jr. Olympics, Championship meet requiring qualification times, Anchorage (Priority Meet)
Of course, it goes without saying that the more meets a swimmer participates in, the greater the opportunities to gain experience and achieve qualification times. The team will also hold periodic time trials during practice. Look for announcements for these events on the team site.
Finally, there will be out of state qualification meets like Region XII or Sectionals. More on those at a later time.
As always, don't hesitate to ask if you ever have questions about swim meets.
See you at the races!
