Coach’s Corner - July 23, 2017

Another summer swim team season is coming to a close. With the Divisionals meet behind us, we find our team with a 3-2 record, a 1st place finish in the A relays meet and a 2nd place finish in the Divisional meet. After all the points were tallied our team ended up in 3rd place in Division D. Our placement for next summer remains the same - Division D - with the our 2018 A meet competition coming from: Damascus, Woodley Gardens, Robin Hood, Franklin Knolls and King Farm.

This past week the swimmers had the chance to try out the “Rockin’ Jump” facility, have a hearty meal of pancakes, sausage and fruit at the annual “Pancake Breakfast”and later that afternoon and evening drop more time and win large rosette ribbons at the annual Superstars meet!  I think I have tallied close to 600 or more time improvements between our Wednesday and Saturday meets this summer season! Quite an impressive feat by our swimmers! Our banquet was a success! A huge thank you to all the parents involved in the planning and executing of much anticipated event.  A handful of Kentlands Kingfish swimmers will represent our team on Saturday and Sunday - July 29th & 30th at the All Star Relay/Individual meet.

As you ponder your next move in the swimming world, consider - if you don’t already do so - swimming at least once or twice a week during the school year. There are many programs to choose from in Montgomery County. Do the research, go online, visit the pool sites and talk to fellow Kentlands Kingfish who are already involved with these programs. Keep working on your stroke technique and come back ready for the summer of 2018!

As I close my third summer with the Kingfish, I want all parents and swimmers to know what an honor and privilege it is to work in a community where the sport of swimming is truly valued. I wish all the swimmers and parents time to relax with what remains of your summer.  As well, I bid Godspeed to all our seniors - Sophie, Cecile, Maya, Sydney, Kevin, Griffin, Joseph and Turner - as they move on to college/university - we will miss you! Best wishes to all Kingfish swimmers for a great school year.

I am sure many of the coaches felt the same way I did, but the season seemed to fly by too quickly!

We - the Kentlands Kingfish Coaching Staff - would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the entire Kingfish community - parents and swimmers - for the very generous gifts extended to all of us at the banquet. It was truly appreciated.
