HAMPEL WINS STATE TITLE

Katie Hampel led the Owensboro Marlins to an overall 7th place finish at the 13 and Over Kentucky Long Course Championship swim meet held in Elizabethtown July 27th-30th.    Hampel won the state championship in the Women’s 15 and Over 100 meter backstroke and finished 2nd in the overall high point standings.  Other honors Hampel earned were 2nd in the 200 meter backstroke 3rd in both the 200 and 400 meter individual medley, 4th in the 200 meter freestyle and 5th in the 400 meter freestyle.  

In the same category, Emma Fenwick had a strong outing posting 6th place finishes in the 100 meter breaststroke and 800 meter freestyle.   Mary Kelly Hyland placed 6th in the 1,500 meter freestyle while Julia Smith also medaled by finishing 6th in the 100 freestyle.  

Hampel, Fenwick, Hyland and Smith combined for a 5th place finish in the 400 meter medley relay.   Two other relay teams consisting of Samantha Phillips, Hampel, Fenwick and Smith also made it to the medal podium with 3rd place in the 200 meter medley relay and 5th in the 400 meter freestyle relay.

On the men’s side, Drew Dodds paced the team with 6th place finishes in the 100 meter breaststroke and 800 meter freestyle and finished 8th in the 200 meter breaststroke and 200 meter individual medley.  Dodds teamed with Sean Boone, Andrew St. Clair and Gavin Fuchs for a 6th place finish in the 200 meter freestyle relay. 

In the Women’s 13-14 age category, Addison Callis swam to a 3rd place finish in the 100 meter breaststroke and 7th place in the 200 meter breaststroke.  Callis joined Molly Church, Avery Krahwinkel and Abby Warren for a 5th place finish in the 200 meter freestyle relay.
