NORTHWOOD POINTE FLASH LIGHT UP THE 2017 IRVINE SWIM LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIPS
Seventy-four Northwood Pointe Flash swimmers traveled to William Woollett Jr. Aquatics Center to compete in the Irvine Swim League (ISL) Championships, a culmination of a season defined by perseverance and hard work.
With a formidable performance, Christopher Leung (12) powered to the first place in all three of his individual events, setting two Flash records in the 11-12 Boys 100 IM with 1:01.47 and the 11-12 Boys Breaststroke with a time of 31.45 seconds and earning 60 points for his team.
Katerina Tolkachev (10) skillfully swam to a top three finish in all of her individual events, breaking a Flash record in the Girls 9-10 Backstroke while earning 49 points. Taylor Inouye (12) and Jeremy Mah (13) also turned in impressive medal winning finishes in two of their events, earning 39 points each.
Determined swimmers Joshua Potter (15) and Ethan Kong (6) finished in the top ten in more than one individual event, attaining more than 20 points each for the Flash. Also turning in point earning swims were Joseph Inouye, Sydney Inouye, Konner Lee, Emily Odom, Dane Mortenesen, Tiara Schechinger and Lauren Kim.
Demonstrating the tenacious spirit of the Flash, forty-five swimmers posted individual time improvements. Rahma Ahmed, Brandon Anderson and Kayla Anderson dropped more than three seconds in their individual events. Shaving off more than five seconds were Sydney Berryman, Mattix Huffman and Karlisha Yu. Damian Chang slashed his best time by 13.36 seconds.
Swimmers who succeeded in achieving time improvements in one or more individual events included Olivia Berryman, Dolan Chang, Hannah Compton, Aaron Do, William Fei, Meher Gosain, Vivian Gu, Andrew Harper, Benjamin Haselhuhn, Sydney Henry, Keia Huffman, Mark Kim, Jason Lam, Dylan Lee, Kyle Lee, Noah Lee, Anders Mortensen, Jayden Moussa-Zahab, Daniel Noh, Caitlin Novak, Malcolm Overbaugh, and Russell Qian. Also Chloe Sexton, Audrey Smith, Kennedy Smith, Madelyn Smith, Kaitlyn Spellman, Sasha Tolkachev, Brandon Tung, Katherine Tung, Katharine Villacorte, Sophia Visan, Katelyn Vu, Austin Wang, Kathryn White, Mitchell White, Henry Wiechmann and Rachel Yokota.
Seoah Back, Jake Compton, Katherine Fan, Ansh Gosain, Max Haymes, Sean King, Kaitlyn Kong, June Lee, Jonathon Mah, Chase Mayhew, Cooper Mayhew, Milan Nawabi, Caleigh Nystrom, Emily Yokota, Emily Li, and Jackie Li also had a strong showing at Champs for the Flash.
In the relay events, the 11-12 Mixed Medley team of Hannah Compton, Taylor Inouye, Christopher Leung, Kaitlyn Kong; 13-14 Mixed Medley team of Lauren Kim, Konner Lee, Austin Wang, Jeremy Mah; and the 13-14 Mixed Free relay team including Konner Lee, Lauren Kim, Austin Wang and Joseph Inouye each earned a sixth place medal. Also contributing to the Flash point tally were the 5-6 Mixed Freestyle; 7-8 Mixed Freestyle; the 9-10 Mixed Medley and Freestyle; 11-12 Mixed Freestyle; and 15-18 Mixed Medley and Freestyle Relay teams.
After delivering a successful performance at Champs, the Flash wrap up another exciting swim season. Congratulations to all the Flash swimmers and to the coaches and families who support them!
