October Swimmers of the Month

October 2017 Swimmers of the Month

These swimmers were selected by our coaches on the basis of their attitude, attendance, performance, and effort at practice in the month of September
Bronze 1John Sorenson - We have seen so many new faces join us at LY in the past few weeks! For many of these new swimmers, the season opener meet was the first USA Swimming meet that they competed in. This was the case for our bronze one swimmer of the month, John, and we saw some amazing swims from him! He swam both days of the meet, in four events each day. He was always behind the blocks on time, cap and goggles on, and ready to go. While John didn’t have any times to beat, he didn’t receive a DQ in any of his events. That is a major accomplishment! He shows so much enthusiasm at practice, always ready to work hard and do whatever his coaches ask of him. We are so proud of you, John!
Bronze 2 Kaelyn Mahland - Our Bronze 2 group had an excellent season opener meet! We saw a lot of best times and some overall fantastic swims. Kaelyn swam both days of the meet and had some pretty incredible time drops! She dropped 13 seconds in 100 IM as well as 7 seconds in both 50 Back and 50 Breast. Kaelyn has been a wonderful addition to our bronze group this season, always on the pool deck on time and ready to get in the water right away. With such a big group of bronze swimmers, it’s super important for everyone to listen very closely at practice so they can know what’s going on. Kaelyn is definitely one of the best listeners in the group! That is really going to help her succeed as she continues to work hard with LY! Way to go, Kaelyn!
SilverAnna Mills has had an excellent start to the season! The hard work that she puts in everyday at practice really showed at our season opener meet. She dropped time in all of the events she swam, including 20 seconds in 100 Breast, 17 seconds in 100 IM, 15 seconds in 100 Free, and almost a full minute in 200 Free. Not only did Anna swim well in the meet, she did so with a great attitude! Even when her goggles fell off as she dove in for her 200 Free, she still finished the race with a smile on her face. Anna is so good about coming to her coaches before and after her races - whether she’s looking for advice, needs to be capped, or just wants a quick hug. Keep up the good work, Anna!
Gold -  Thomas Fenton. Thomas has been exceling in practices and has done very well in his first month at LY. He had a great Season Opener meet and was one of many who had 100% time drops. He loved swimming the distance events but he really exceled in every stroke. He has made it his goal to achieve some of the Age Group times.
Varsity -  Spencer Miles. Spencer has been a great addition to the group this year. He has been giving it 110% effort since day one and has been focused on getting better every time he touches the water. The season opener was Spencer's first meet as an LY swimmer. Spencer swam a total of ten events, as well as two relays. He was pumped about his sprint freestyle and looks forward to continuing to develop his skills across a range of events in the upcoming meets. In addition to swimming well, Spencer has also been a great teammate. He brings a lot of positive energy to the pool deck and is always there to cheer on the team. Spencer is a great example of a swimmer who is Fun, Focused, Fearless, and For the team! Keep up the good work Spencer!
National - John Michael Gordon.  John Michael has been one of the top performers in our group for quite awhile, but from the start of this season, he is taking it to a new level.  He won 10 out of his 12 events at the Season Opener meet (placing 2nd in the other two), and has been training like a madman. His performances at practice have been regularly his fastest ever, and he has been a leader at practice every day.  He is clearly having FUN and staying FOCUSED!  It should be exciting to see what he can do this season!
And Congratulations to the following swimmers who had 100% perfect attendance in the month of September: Lilly Scott, Landon Harrington, Declan Hermes, Rowena Phillips, Gabriela Brose, Justin Weng, Anne-Elaine Tiller, Daniel Murray, and JT Lotz.
