What is the Lil Legends?
The Lil Legends is a pre-competitive program designed to introduce the basics of competitive swimming in a fun, learning environment. The Lil Legends are taught the fundamentals of competitive swimming, including the four competitive strokes (butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke, and freestyle), starts, turns, underwater skills, rules, and basic sportsmanship of the swimming. This program feeds directly into our competitive stream. Swimmers are primarily between 6 and 11 years old.
What can I expect during the tryout?
Our team tryouts are based upon the age of the swimmer and their swimming abilities. To be prepared for our Lil Legends program, prospective swimmers must have a functional freestyle (front crawl), backstroke (back crawl), and solid fundamentals in breaststroke kick (whip kick).
Assessments are comprised of a quick in-water evaluation of the swimmers skills. This brief tryout will help the coach assess your child’s swimming ability.
Young swimmers who have been accepted will join our Lil Legends pre-competitive program. Swimmers transferring from other clubs will be assessed and interviewed to determine their correct group placement.
What if my child is unable to meet the minimum requirements for the Lil Legends Pre-Competitive program?
Swimmers who don’t have the foundational skills required for our Lil Legends program will be offered a spot in our Swim School, space permitting. Our Swim School focuses on stroke correction and preparing swimmers in the three fundamental skills of freestyle, backstroke, and breaststroke kick to progress into Lil Legends. Swim School swimmers must be able to swim independently and the length of the pool (25m).
What will happen after the assessment?
The coach’s assessment will be given to the Head Coach to review. He will contact parents to offer a spot in the appropriate group based on the swimmers skills and abilities, space permitted.
