2017 Ohio Virtual Distance Challenge & Katy Callard Distance Meet Event Information

This years event will take place on Sunday Dec. 17th @ the Columbus Academy.  Regardless of whether your athlete plans to attend, we ask that all WAC families consider volunteering to help run this WAC hosted meet.   All age group athletes in the Bronze2, Silver2, and Gold2 groups are expected to participate.  Bronze1, Silver1, and Gold1 athletes who are interested are very welcome/encouraged to participate if they are capable of swimming a 500 freestyle in less than 10 minutes.  Coach CJ is happy to discuss if you aren't sure!

This is two meets in one!  All swimmers entered in the Ohio Virtual Distance Challenge will be competing against everyone in Ohio by age and gender.  Awards will be distributed after all meets around the state have completed.  Swimmers are also competing in the Katy Callard Memorial Distance Meet for awards as compared by event, age, and gender at this site only.
This meet tags on to the GCSTO Holiday meet at Columbus Academy and begins early Sunday afternoon and runs to completion.  WAC parents are asked to volunteer a few hours that day during the time in which their child is swimming to help time, deck marshal or help with moderate hospitality.  Coach Jim is looking for someone to help coordinate hospitality for this meet
The nature of this meet lends itself to a very simple format (only 2 events) and very predictable to know when your swimmer will compete once entries are in.   Volunteer sign-ups will be posted on the website and reminders will be sent alerting you to the status of your swimmer’s timeline.

Meet Entries

Meet entries for December are being finalized right now, and it will be time to enter January meets before we know it.  Please take a moment to look at your family calendar and plan your meet participation through the end of the season.  We have had many athletes miss out on opportunities to race because of missed deadlines.  These meets fill quickly and especially towards the end of the season we want to see our swimmers competing!

Age Group Parents - Text Alert Communications

Please take a look at your WAC account and add cell phone numbers for anyone who would want to know about last minute practice changes or meet information.  The feature in your account is called SMS messaging, you can add several phone numbers if needed.   We have had a few last minute changes in the past couple of weeks and it's hard to get in touch with everyone by e.mail in a timely manner.

I do try to target the audience using the roster groups and only use it for 'urgent' communication- so you shouldn't get bombarded with irrelevant texts.  If you have any questions or have trouble signing up for the SMS messaging, please contact Amy Houston or Coach CJ.
