Hayashi, Arbuckles medal at
Yuki Hayashi, Josie Arbuckle and J.J. Arbuckle competed in 17
preliminary events at the Dec. 1-3 Short Course Junior Olympics in
Moraga and placed in the top 10 in 14 final events.
More than 600 of Pacific Swimming’s top athletes from 70
teams competed at the meet, but only the top 10 finishers in each
event received medals. Pacific Swimming covers the greater San
Francisco Bay Area, the coast from Monterey County to the Oregon
border, the Stockton-Modesto area, and the Reno-Lake Tahoe area.
Hayashi, 11, competed in seven events, medaling in five events and
achieving six personal best times. He placed third in 200 freestyle
(2:05.35, a new Far Western and AA time), fourth in 500 free
(5:40.64, a new Far Western and AA time), seventh in 100 free
(58.80, his first sub-minute time), seventh in the 200 IM (2:23.37,
a new Far Western and AA time) and eighth in 100 breaststroke
(1:16.84, a new A time).
Josie Arbuckle, 11, competed in six events, medaling in four and
achieving 100-percent personal best times. She took sixth place in
50 backstroke (31.69), seventh in 200 IM (2:25.78, a new AA time),
ninth in 100 back (1:06.27, a new Far Western time) and 10th in the
50 free (27.42, a new AA time).
J.J. Arbuckle, 10, competed in four events at his first Junior
Olympic meet, placing in the top 10 in all events with 100-percent
personal best times. He took sixth in the 100 butterfly (1:13.54, a
new AAA time), sixth in the 50 fly (32.22), seventh the 50 back
(34.79, a new Far Western and AA time) and ninth in the 200
individual medley (2:38.78, a new AAA time).
