NVST Competes in Husky Invitational


Six from Napa Valley Swim Team compete in Husky Invitational

Nick Cisco, Emily Dusky, Max Gilsenan, Jack Montoro, Iona Pascual and Kelsea Wright of the Napa Valley Swim Team produced an excellent team performance at the 69th annual Husky Invitational in Federal Way, Washington.

Dusky took third in the women’s 100-yard breaststroke, setting new 15-16 age group and Senior team records with her preliminary swim time of 1:02.08. She had set the previous record of 1:02.11 in 2016, ranking her third among U.S. 16-year-olds for the season. Dusky also placed sixth in the 200 breaststroke (2:21.77).

Gilsenan placed 15th in the 100 breaststroke with a new 13-14 age group team record of 58.13 in his preliminary swim, breaking the record of 1:00.56 he set earlier this year, ranking him fourth in the United States among 14-year-olds for the season and 82nd all-time for 13-14 boys. He also placed 15th in the 200 breaststroke in 2:08.84, breaking the record of 2:09.35 set by Josh Mitchell 2000.


Jack Montoro set new 17-18 age group and Senior team records in the 100 butterfly with a 52.38, breaking the record of 53.44 set by Sam Starr in 2011, and in the 200 fly with a 1:57.91, breaking the record of 1:58.16 set by Phil Schwaiger in 1987.

Iona Pascual set a new 15-16 age group team record in the 50 freestyle of 21.65, breaking the record of 21.81 set by Jeff Windle in 1986, and placed 15th and set a new 15-16 team record in the 100 free of 47.00, breaking the record of 47.96 also set by Windle in 1986. He also placed 16th and set a new 15-16 team record in the 200 individual medley of 1:54.84 in the preliminaries, breaking the record of 1:56.11 set by Adrian Talcott in 1994.

Other noteworthy individual performances included Nick Cisco breaking 1:50 in the 200 free for the first time with a 1:49.29, and Wright breaking 1:00 in the 100 backstroke for the first time with a 59.97.


The foursome of Pascual, Montoro, Cisco and Gilsenan also excelled in relays.

They placed 24th and set a new Senior team record in the 200 free relay of 1:29.89, eclipsing the 1:32.42 set by Starr, Chase Taylor, Seth Anderson and Devon Jones in 2010.

They also placed 19th and set a new Senior team record in the 400 free relay (previous record 3:17.12 by McAdam, Stribling, Wilson, Windle in 1988), took 23rd in the 200 medley relay (1:38.96), and finished 16th in the 400 medley relay (3:34.92).
