Candy Cane Classic
The Candy Cane meet hosted by Keyano Swim Club received a change of scenery this year. Nearly 400 swimmers, including 80 of our very own, lit up the lanes of the Grant MacEwan pool. For many, this was their first chance at a three day meet with both prelims and finals. This was a fantastic meet for everyone as we approach JP Fiset for some swimmers, and the break for others, to get into the racing spirit and show off all of their hard work thus far this season. The overlying theme of the weekend was team support in and out of the pool and we saw this come through as we watched races left and right and team members following closely behind to help support and cheer them on!
While there were exceptional swims had by every group that attended, there were some notable performances in particular: Sophie Binch and Huai-Yuan Lu both qualified for provincials for the first time this weekend. As well as Briseis Wu, Tucker Buhler, Sahara Visscher, Sophie Binch, Sylas Pydde, Torin Wu, Brooke Anderson, Kayla St. Pierre, Alyssa Jerace, Tehya Dickson, Huai- Yuan Lu, Bill Lu, Hayden Theophile who placed first in an individual event.
The coaching staff is thrilled to see the support the team gave this weekend and look forward to the rest of the season of racing! Way to go O!
