Synchro Saskatchewan Selects Coaches for 2019 Canada Winter Games
The Synchro Saskatchewan Board of Directors and High Performance Committee are pleased to announce the coaches for Team Saskatchewan - Synchronized Swimming for the upcoming Canada Winter Games being held in February 2019 in Red Deer, Alberta. We awarded the two coaching positions to Elise Marcotte (Synchro Saskatchewan’s High Performance Consultant) and Laurie Wachs (Synchro Saskatchewan’s High Performance Director). Due to the hard work, vast experience and wealth of expertise offered by these two coaches over the years, we are very excited to see what they will do together in their co-coaching positions and for the development of Synchro Team Saskatchewan. Elise Marcotte M.Sc OLY B.A.A Two-time Olympian Elise Marcotte is the High Performance Consultant for Synchro Saskatchewan. She made her Olympic debut at the 2008 Beijing Games finishing 4th in the team event, she earned 2 more near-podium results at the 2012 London Games finishing 4th in duet, best Canadian result since the 1992 Olympics and a 4th place in the team event. Marcotte is a Pan American Games double gold medalist (2011) and a two-time FINA World Championship Bronze Medalist (2009-2011). Elise is a NCCP certified Comp-Dev coach and a member of the Coaching Association of Canada board of directors. Since retirement in 2012, Marcotte coached the Hong Kong National Team before the Asian Games in 2014, helped choreograph the Olympic routines for Brazil alongside Julie Sauvé before the Rio 2016 Games and hosted camps and seminars with a club in France and across Canada. Marcotte was the Deputy Chef de Mission for Team Canada at the Pan American Games in Toronto in 2015. Currently Elise is the Marketing and Communications Manager for Game Plan, a Canadian Olympic Committee, Canadian Paralympic Committee and Sport Canada Initiative delivering services to National team athletes to prepare their transition from sport to professionals. Elise will be attending her first Canada Winter Games as a coach and she is excited to share this opportunity with HP Director Laurie Wachs.
Laurie Wachs is the half time HP Director for Synchro Saskatchewan and the half time Head Coach of the Saskatoon Aqualenes Synchronized Swimming Club. She has thirty five years coaching experience and has coached many athletes to medal performances at the provincial and national level, as well as placing numerous Saskatchewan athlete’s onto National Teams. In November of 2000, the Coaching Association of Canada selected Laurie as the recipient of the 3M Coaching Canada Award in the Development Sport – Female Category. In November 2004. Laurie was inducted into the Saskatoon Sports Hall of Fame as a “Sport Builder”. In 2009 Laurie was awarded Sask Sport’s Female Coach Dedication Award. In 2010, Laurie received Synchro Canada’s Distinguished Member Award, recognizing a member of Synchro Canada who has made an exceptional contribution to the “art as well as the sport” of synchronized swimming. Laurie has dedicated her life to sport and coaching and feels blessed to have had the opportunity to shape and influence many young athletes lives! Laurie has attended six Canada Winter Games as a coach and mentored numerous Games Coaches over the years. She is excited to attend 2019 Canada Winter Games in Red Deer, Alberta with co-coach and HP Consultant Elise Marcotte.
