Swimmers Ring in New Year at Winter Festival

Officially 5 months into our season and NJB continues to impress--this time beyond the waves of New Jersey. Heading out to the NDAC Winter Festival in Montgomery, New York this past weekend, our 37 attending swimmers raised the level of competition far beyond the unsuspecting expectations of the other competing teams. Despite the frigid temperatures outdoors, our athletes finished the weekend able to brag of their plethora of career best times, top finishes, new team records, and new qualifying championship meet cuts.

The new year started off strong with 103 career best times! Altogether, the team dropped over 7 and ½ minutes (about 456 seconds!). In a sport where seconds are lifetimes, this is an achievement for the history books. Notable time drops were swum by Peyton Alviani (-26.10 seconds in 100 fly), Andrew Carlson (-15.31 seconds in 200 free), Anthony Carlson (-17.01 in 200 free), Jacob Conklin (-34.97 in 200 breast), Ethan Cross (-37.87 in 200 breast), Erin McLean (-15.28 in 200 breast), Sydney Mills (-11.03 in 200 free), and William Ruddy (-27.23 in 500 free).

The hours of hard work certainly paid off for our 24 first places, earned by Jillian Berg (100 fly), Reese Berg (100 IM, 50 breast), Andrea Carlson (100 back, 100 fly, 200 back, 500 free), Ryan Juckett (25 free), Nathaniel Kern (25 back, 50 fly), Jake Leddy (500 free), Jordan Maruska (200 breast, 200 free, 500 free), Jake Riva (100 back, 100 free, 200 back, 50 free), and Sam Russell (100 breast, 100 free, 200 breast, 200 free, 200 IM, 50 free).

Gold times were swum by Jillian Berg (100 fly, 100 free, 200 IM, 400 IM), Zach Bezold (200 breast), Jordan Maruska (50 free, 100 free, 200 back, 200 breast, 200 free, and 500 free), Jake Riva (100 back, 100 free, 200 back, 50 free), and Sam Russell (100 breast, 100 free, 200 breast, 200 free, 200 IM, 50 free). 69 silver times were also achieved.

Amazingly, 21 new team records were set by Christopher Gutierrez (100 Back, 50 Fly), Ryan Juckett (10 & under 25 free), Marcus Innamorato (10 & under 200 free), Nathaniel Kern (10 & under 25 back, 25 breast, and 25 fly), Peyton Berg (11-12 50 free, 100 free, 100 back, and 200 IM), Jordan Maruska (13-14 50 free, 500 free, 100 back, 200 back, and 200 breast), Jillian Berg (13-14 200 IM), Andrew Carlson (13-14 200 back), Anthony Carlson (13-14 400 IM), and Jake Leddy (15-18 500 free and 200 breast).
