The Aquazot swimmers wasted no time starting the new year off with great swimming at the ‘Set blue meet’ this past weekend. Leading the way for Azot was Holden Levine, with 6 first place finishes out of 6 events in the boy’s 9/10 age group. For one of his wins, Holden smashed the 1:10 barrier for the first time in the 100 backstroke, posting a very good time of 1:08.96.
Joining Holden on the top step of the podium was Nathan Wu, with 4 first place results out of 4 swims in the boy’s 11/12 age group. Nathan dropped more than two seconds in the 50 backstroke for a first place time of 30.53.
Alex Schwartz posted wins in the 200 Free and 100 IM events in the 11/12 boys age group, and his 100 IM time was a new personal best by over 1 ½ seconds (1:08.31). Alex also finished in 3rd place in the 100 free and 100 fly events.
Ian Sun had a gold medal swim in the 9/10 boys 50 freestyle, with a new best time of 28.78. Ian also finished 2nd in the 200 IM, and 3rd in the 100 free, 200 free, 50 & 100 backstrokes, and the 50 fly.
Travis Spaan picked up a victory for Azot in the men’s 17&up 200 freestyle, as his 1:54.53 was the top time for that age group.
Also finishing on the podium for the Azot boys were: Nathaniel Ince (11/12 boys – 2nd place in the 50 fly, 100 fly, & 100 IM, and 3rd place in the 200 IM), and William Sun (13/14 boys – 2nd place in the 100 free & 100 back, & 3rd place in the 200 back).
The Aquazot girls were also well represented at the meet, led by Victoria Nguyen, who finished the meet with 5 first place results. Victoria narrowly missed breaking the 26 second barrier for the first time in the 50 free, with a 26.03 effort for the win. In the 100 freestyle she dropped over a half second from her previous best to take the event in a very good time of 54.90.
Also finishing in the top 3 places for the Azot girls were: Grace Wagener: 7/8 girls (2nd place in the 100 IM with a 5 second drop, 1:33.21, and 3rd place in the 100 free & 50 brst), Zara Masud: 11/12 girls (2nd place in the 200 free, 3 second drop, 2:08.41, & 200 IM, and 3rd place in the 100 back & 100 fly), Rennie Karsten: 15-16 girls – (3rd place in the 100 brst).
