Wingate's Alex Divelbiss & Sebastian Holmberg Named CollegeSwimming SOTW for BGM

 
Wingate University graduate student Alex Divelbiss (Pueblo, Colo.) and senior Sebastian Holmberg (Njutanger, Sweden) are the Bluegrass Mountain Conference Swimmer of the Week, as named by CollegeSwimming.com. The Bulldog duo helped Wingate sweep the team titles at the 13th annual SCAD Savannah Invitational last weekend.
 
"Both Alex and Sebastian have been the anchors…performance-wise…for our team over the past two years," Wingate head men's and women's swimming coach Kirk Sanocki says. "Our coaching staff is always excited to see their hard work rewarded."
 
Alex Divelbiss
 
The 2017 Bluegrass Mountain Conference Swimmer of the Year, Divelbiss won a team-best seven races in the 13th annual SCAD Savannah Invitational as the Bulldogs won their 10th team championship trophy at the three-day event. Divelbiss participated in four gold medal-winning relays while touching first in three individual events.
 
Individually, Divelbiss won the 200 Individual Medley (2:02.99), the 100 Butterfly (55.23) and the 100 Freestyle (50.74). On the relay scene, Divelbiss and the Bulldogs won the 4x200 Freestyle Relay (7:29.61), the 4x50 Freestyle (1:34.97), the 4x100 Medley Relay (3:48.73) and the 4x100 Freestyle Relay (3:26.92).
 
Divelbiss swam the anchor leg as the Wingate 800 Freestyle Relay team won a 2017 NCAA Division II national championship with a time of 7:16.37 at the Birmingham (Ala.) CrossPlex. She won one gold medal, four silver medals and one bronze medal at the NCAAs, posting seven All-American swims. In the 2017 BMC event, Divelbiss won three individual races and two relay swims.
 
Sebastian Holmberg
 
Holmberg won six events in the 13th annual SCAD Savannah Invitational as the Bulldogs hoisted their ninth team championship trophy following the three-day event. Holmberg was a member of three gold medal-winning relays while taking first place in three individual swims.
 
Individually, Holmberg won the 200 Individual Medley (1:49.51), the 100 Butterfly (47.68) and the 100 Backstroke (48.87). In the relays, Holmberg and the Bulldogs won the 4x50 Freestyle (1:22.23), the 4x100 Medley Relay (3:16.05) and the 4x100 Freestyle Relay (2:59.98).
 
Holmberg claimed All-American honors in three events at the 2017 NCAA national championship meet in Birmingham. He competed in seven events at the 2017 Bluegrass Mountain Conference championship meet in Charlotte, finishing seventh or better in each one. He was All-BMC in three individual events at the season-concluding meet.
