January Swimmers of the Month
These swimmers were chosen by our coaching staff for their attitude, effort, attendance, and performance in the month of December.
National - John Michael Gordon. John Michael had a simply phenomenal meet, breaking 13 team records (7 in the 15-16 age group, 6 in the Open age group), and becoming the first LY swimmer under 4:00 in the 400 IM. He also won 5 of his events and went 100% best times. Way to go, JM!
Varsity - Lindsay Hatfield. Lindsay raced to 100% best times in Christiansburg and was incredibly consistent in her improvements. She even dropped more than 5 seconds and three different events. Her best swim might have been her 50 free, where she sprinted to a 28.12. None of this is a surprise for Lindsay, one of the most dedicated swimmers in the Varsity group!
Gold - Luke Ellett. Luke swam to new personal best times in all 6 of his events at the HOKI meet. Most notable was his massive 20 second drop in the 200 free. This kids is only starting to show what he is capable of -- keep it up, Luke!
Silver - Mason Cooper. Mason was awesome in Christiansburg. He went best times by more than 10 seconds in the 100 back and 14 seconds in the 200 free! He has been embracing the challenges at practice and then really showing it at meets! Awesome job, Mason!
Bronze 2 - Olivia Judy. Olivia stepped up her game to a new level this month. She tackled three events she had never before swum -- the 200 free, 200 IM, and and 100 back. On top of that, she swam 4 new best times in Christiansburg, including an improvement of 4 seconds in the 100 breast and 6 seconds in the 50 breast! Way to go, Olivia!
Bronze 1 - Anna Curtis. Anna is a super-motivated swimmer who has had excellent practice attendance. In December, she swam best times in the 50 back by more than 3 seconds and the 50 free by more than 8! This is what happens when passion and dedication meet! Keep it up, Anna!
