45 Atomic City Aquatic Club (ACAC) swimmers competed in the 2018 Pilot Flying J January Classic recently in Knoxville. In a meet meant to measure improvements from holiday training, and to see how the swimmers have handled their increased training load, swimmers took yet another step toward championship season.
Tais Brown (14) made a Senior Sectional time with a victory in the 200 Fly, narrowly missing victory and a prestigious Senior Sectional cut in the 100 Fly. He also made finals (top 16) and earned the right to swim Southeasterns in the 50 Free, 100 Free, and 100 Back, making Age Groups in the Free and Fly events.
Abigail King (13) made finals and Southeasterns in the 100 Back, 200 Back, 100 Fly, 200 Fly, 200 IM and 400 IM, making Age Groups in four events.
Camden Gerchar (12) made finals and Southeasterns in all 10 events he swam. Logan Hall (11) had top 16 finishes and Southeastern qualifying times in all 9 of his events, making Age Groups in four events. Aydan Skelton (10) made Southeasterns in two events and bonus times in two others. Sydney Goodman (17) and Paul Greene (14) each made one bonus time.
In the 8 and under age group, Landon Hall (8) shined with victories in 4 events and top 3 performances in four other events, obtaining a Southeastern bonus time in the 50 Back.
ACAC will be traveling to meets through the middle of March in Kingsport (TN), Chattanooga (TN), Huntsville (AL) and Cary (NC) to close out the short course season, before changing gears for long course summer swimming. Stay tuned for more fast swimming results!
