On the weekend of January 19th to 21st the swimmers from the PSW Junior 1 and Youth Program, made their way downtown for the CDSC New Year’s Invitational. This was an exciting meet for our PSW swimmers, and a great opportunity for the athletes to show off all the hard work that they had done during the holiday training camps.
Matthew Wang, Justin Yeom, and Zadie Feck all had a hand in helping to rewrite the history books, by breaking multiple meet records over the three day meet. Justin Yeom also won the 12 and Under High Points Award, by continuing to dominate the butterfly events across the province, with a great race in the 100 butterfly. Matthew Wang also broke a PSW Club Record during the meet, putting his name up on the record board for the first time in the 11-12 year old category, with a great swim in the 50 butterfly.
There were so many amazing races from all our athletes at the Vancouver Aquatic Centre, with a few athletes really standing out and having some breakthrough swims. Edison Liu, Vic Wang and Oliver Allen, both came into the meet with a goal in mind, which was to qualify for the Swim BC Tier 1 Provincial Championships. Both swimmers attacked each race determined to meet their goal, both smashing the standard, and now get to head to Penticton with the team. Kendra Wilson really showed off all the hard work that she has been putting in during training, and put together some great races including the 200 IM and 200 Butterfly. Josie Soti got one step closer to attending the Swim BC Tier 1 Provincial Championships, by putting together an awesome race in the 200 IM, smashing the standard. She will be looking to achieve her second standard at the Knights Winter Fest this coming weekend. Maddie Cowie was another stand out swimmer for the Sea Wolves, showing her versatility as a swimmer, achieving best times in multiple events in all four strokes.
One of the highlight achievements of the weekend was having the team be awarded the Margaret Durward Award, which was given to the team who showed Outstanding Team Spirit over the course of the weekend. The award was voted on by all the officials, volunteers and coaches on deck, which really speaks to the presence that our swimmers had on deck, and the strength of our PSW pride!
Next up is the Knights Winter Fest, Chena 12 and Under Meet, and Chena Distance LMR!
Go PSW Go!
