Coaches Message

Great job to all our swimmers who competed at the Bellingham swim meet. The team saw some fast swims, and a number of girls kicked some butt.

There was a ton of sick swimmers as well. Lets make sure we aren?t sharing food, or water. Also washing your hands is the number one way of keeping away from germs.

              

BellinghamSwim Meet Results

We had a ton of sick swimmers for this meet. It made putting together relays really tough and cut into the number of swimmers at the meet. Thank you to Cal, he did a great job handling all the changes and thank you to all who communicated.

 

Swimmer of the meet: Chloe Hernandez

As a 8 year old Chloe has really developed as a swimmer. She has swam all 4 competitive strokes legally. She dropped time in 6 of 7 races. She also swam two new events, the 100 backstroke and the 200 freestyle. She placed top 5 in all of her races and placed 1st in the 100 backstroke and the 200 freestyle. Great job and keep it up.

 

Wow swims

Chloe Hernandez,  she swam really well in the 200 freestyle, completing it in under 4 minutes and looking strong for the entire swim.

Annaly Ellis, she deck entered the 200 fly to support a teammate and because she wanted to swim the event. She ended up swimming the 200 fly in 3:04 and wanted to swim it again to try and get under 3 minutes. It was a very impressive swim, lets keep it up.

 

Most Improved(largest time drop)

Runners up were Emily Cox with big time drops in her 200 back and 100 fly and Annaly Ellis who dropped 88 seconds in her 400 IM. Those were not enough, Dallas Moore had some huge time drops that added up to 95 seconds. The largest was a 54 second time drop in here 200 free.

 

Lighting Strikes

Max Adam, not even entered in the meet but want to do some swimming, he dropped 12 seconds in his 100 backstroke. Great improvement from his last swim in that event.

Michael Bobrowski, for the first time he swam the 500 free and swam it in 9:42. Michael joined our program in September and to be swimming 500s after only 5 months is great.

Lindsay Brown, she had some strong swims and placed top 3 in all her events. This was a great training meet for her. Cal thought her best race was in the 400 IM, she added 10 seconds but raced it well and looked good in all strokes.

Cassidy Drown, in her 100 backstroke she missed her best time but did very well in her turns and pacing. Doing the small things will add up to big time drops in time.

Sean Dyer,  he had to fight through the pain of an ear infection, added time in a number of races but also got some big time drops. Sometimes just showing up is enough, he dropped 21 seconds in his 100 breaststroke.

Silvia Ellis, she had a really well put together 200 im, not her best time but connected her strokes really well and raced hard.

Calum Hambleton, he dropped 18 seconds in his 50 backstroke, swimming the event in 1:02.99 and placed 9th overall.

Sabine Hambleton, she dropped in 5 of 6 races and only missed her 6th time drop by 0.25 in her 50 free. Her best race came in the 200 backstroke, keeping long and smooth.

Logan Horr, with a big 10 second time drop in his 50 breaststroke, Logan swam the event in 51.53.

Ryan Horr, he got a strong swim in the 50 free, dropping 1.34 seconds and bringing his 50 free to 26.60. Not bad for a slow twitch individual.

Jake Jennings, for the very first time Jake swam the 500 free, swimming the event in 7:47. Not too shabby for being 8.

Grace Johnston, big 13 second time drop in the 200 free. Grace has had a very impressive year, making her first PNS meet, dropping lots of time in all her events and moving close to a Regional Cut.

Ashleigh Merrill, her best swim came in the 100 fly, she added 1.71 seconds but looked strong. Still working on recovering from an injury and being sick a good swim.

Pam Moore, she had a great swim in the 200 free, dropping 15 seconds, hitting her turns and starting to do the little things very well.

Emma Oakes, learning from her mistakes from previous meets she swam the 100 IM legally for the first. Moving forward every swim.

Makayla Patrick, placing 8th in her 100 IM, she ended up dropping 1 second. This meet was a close one for Makayla, she missed time drops in a number of races by less then a second. Looking forward to her next meet when she will really hit her swims.

Trey Patrick, he shaved off 7 seconds in his 200 free, getting a little closer to 2 minutes. He swam the event in 2:21.66.

Persephone Pestar, She swam the 200 breaststroke and the 200 fly for the very first time. She was also entered in the 200 backstroke, I almost got her in every 200. I?ll try again next time. She ended up 5th in the 200 fly.

Andres Rivas, his exploits continue in the fly. Last meet he swim the 200 fly for the first time. This meet he drops 4 seconds in his 100 fly placing 8th overall.

Noah Rozema, after being sick for a week and missing the first day of the meet, made it for Sunday. Did not swim best times but missed by less than a second in every event. He also placed 1st in all of his races. Not bad for being sick and not being able to train the week before the swim.

Jack Stickles, Still showing impressive improvement Jack dropped 0.58 in his 25 freestyle and placed 5th in the event.

Megan Stickles, she had a huge 30 second time drop in the her 100 breaststroke. Great improvement in that event and I look forward to seeing her continue to improve.  

 

Masters Meet February 4th

The masters meet is coming up, like past years it will be held on Sunday the 4th. It runs from 9am to about 1pm. If you would like to see much older swimmers race and compete than this is for you. You are also welcome to sign up and become a masters swimmer and join us for the weekend.

 

FridayHarborVs. TAC round two February 10th

The team will be walking on the Ferry at 9:25 on Saturday, and we will be returning at 5:00. Using the 2:50 that is scheduled to return to Anacortes at 5:00. We will be walking on both directions.

 

No NWAC Valentine Meet or February Divisionals 

So we had two meets on the calendar that we are not going to be attending.

 

The NWAC Valentine meet was scheduled for the 10th and 11th. After they failed their levy I assumed that meet would be canceled and scheduled a swim meet with Friday Habor on the 10th. Anacortes is also hosting boys districts that weekend as well. I apologized to NWAC but TAC will not be attending that meet. If you really want to attend let me know and we can have you swim without a coach.

 

We will not be attending February Divisionals, because I am upset with PNS. This is kind of true I am not happy with PNS because of where they sent us. We are given a survey on where we would like to attend divisionals. I selected Snohomish and Mukilteo both are about an hour away. PNS assigned up to Bremerton, which is about 3 hours away. I requested they reassign us to Snohomish or Mukilteo but they said we could go to Kirkland. Not great still a bit far but it is being held at the Juanita Aquatic Center. We attending AGI there in November. After that swim meet it is my opinion that TAC will not attend any meets held at the Juanita Aquatic Center. The air quality is terrible and I will not expose our swimmers to that kind of health risk.

 

So our next sanctioned swim meet after the Bellingham meet will be the March TAC-E meet. Sorry for the rant but I felt the need to explain a few things.

Something New

Team Nutritionist

Please join us in welcoming Sue Mondello, Wellness Coach and Nutritional Therapy Practitioner. Sue helps people understand that through healthy food and lifestyles choices, they can increase their performance, have more energy and help prevent injuries. She helps people cut through the confusion of what is healthy and what is not and empowers people to develop new skills that fit their everyday life. Her compassion for people, combined with her conviction to teach others how nutritional therapy can change their lives, creates a fertile learning environment that is relaxed and enjoyable. Through this powerful experience, people understand that it is the investment in themselves that brings the results. 

Sue has an MBA from Saint Louis University and has worked in the pharmaceutical and biotech industries, as a management consultant for Ernst & Young?s health care practice and as a consultant for other companies.   After spending years serving in different areas of health care, she chose to focus on nutrition as the core foundation for our well being. Sue manages Wellness Navigators, is an instructor for the Nutritional Therapy Association and offers individual and group nutrition sessions.

Hello and welcome to 2018!  The year has started off well and there are many amazing things in front of each of us.  I am Sue Mondello, Nutritional Therapy Practitioner, and your nutrition and wellness coach.  I am excited to be working with the swimmers and their families and this information packet is the first in a series of nutritional recommendations. 

 

The goal is for each of you to have the tools and knowledge to make good choices so you have sustainable energy for high performance and everyday life.  I will also be meeting with the swimmers on Thursday?s Dryland Nutrition Days during the months of February and March.  The purpose of this packet and the nutrition trainings are to share information on:

 

? Common misconceptions about nutrition and eating healthy

? What to eat and drink during training as well as before, during and after meets

? Tips on how to have more energy

? Ways to avoid injuries and/or heal more quickly.
