2018 Zone 2 Championships Report – EBA - CDST

 

We had a very successful Zone 2 Championship Swim Meet, January 27th and 28th in Moraga, CA.  Out of the 94 EBA swimmers, CDST had 43 swimmers participate in the Meet.  And out of 50+ teams, EBA placed 2nd highest in team points!  Way to go!  Also, congratulations to the 6 EBA swimmers who have been selected for the Zone 2 All-Star Team; 3 of them are from CDST! They will represent Zone 2 at the Pacific Swimming Zone All-Star Meet in March.

Here are the Championship Meet highlights for each age group:

 

8 & Under

As a new member Angela Jin had an impressive performance at the meet. She now has A time’s in all her events, including a new A time in her 25 Fly.

 

9-10 Age Group

Lia Tagle swam personal best times in all her events. She drop 3 seconds in her 100 Free(1:11.09).  Justin Ely has received two new A times, 50 Free(30.17) and 50 Back(37.05).  His 50 Free placed 5th overall. Noah Caron had his first appearance with CDST, and had great swims in 100 Free and 100 IM events. Eric Meng is a big star from our 9-10 age group, and scored second most points in his age group.  Eric achieved a new Far Western time, 100 Free(1:05.67), earned two Junior Olympic cuts for 50 Fly and 100IM, and made the 2018 Zone 2 All-Star Team.

Girls: 200 M.R.  -5th

Boys: 200 M.R.  -1st / 200 F.R. -1st

 

11-12 Age Group

It was Yunshan Li and Dylan Snellstrom’s first time at Zone 2 Champs, and both learned a lot from their races.  Angela D’Amelio had a personal best in the 50 Free(27.62).  Ella Gross just turned 11, and she already made a new BB time in 50 Free and 100 Free.  Medha Raghuraman, Andy Pan and Alex Torjyan all received new BB time for their events.  Edward Huang shined like a Star in the 11-12 age group, he scored 9th overall and is the first alternate for the 2018 Zone 2 All-Star Team.

Relay Teams:

Girls: 200 M.R.  – 7th / 200 F.R – 8th

Boys: 200 M.R.  – 4th / 200 F.R – 3rd

 

13-14 Age Group

Nina Caron and Gautham Pandian were new team members and this was their first Championship Meet, and both made best times in their events. Ashley Allen, Iris Gallagher, Sidney Len, Aleina Ruaboro and Chloe Tai had huge improvement at this meet.  Iris drop 1.22 seconds in her 50 Free(26.97); Sidney drop 6 seconds in her 200 IM( 2:33.73), Aleina drop 4.3 seconds in her 200 IM(2:48.45) and Chole drop 5 seconds in her 200 Free(2:21.69).  Both boys from Platinum group William He and Brenton Outangoun made a few personal best times in 50 Free and 100 Breast.  Daniel Huang, who has been working very hard with the Elite group, has been selected to be on the 2018 Zone 2 All-Star Team and is ranked No.1!  He won 200 Free(1:51.77), 200 IM(2:04.69) and 100 Back(57.52).

Boys: 200 M.R.  -1st / 200 F.R – 1st

 

 

15-18 Age Group

All High School swimmers had a long week of School finals before Champs; however, they still did a good job at the Meet.  Keerthana Raghuraman, Ashmita Saha, Anthony Lee, Lawrence Lee, Ryan Prathnadi, Nithin Tatikonda had better performances than their previous Meet.  And Davit Babayan, Hanlin Chen, Marcelo Tagle and Lawrence Quini-Tolentino made a few P.B.’s.  Marissa Savage came back from a long break and got a P.B. in her 50 Free(27.04).  New team member Caroline Caron, competed in her second meet with us, and improved in all her events from the Cal Invite two-weeks ago. Ethan Outangoun had huge drop in time in his 100 Breast(1:11.14).
