February News Bulletin

Happy February, EDGE Swamily. How time flies! February marks the end of our invitational meet portion of the short course season, and kicks off the championship season! This is an exciting time for all members of the EDGE swim club community. It is important that with this excitement, we keep a proper focus and perspective on what really matters most.

EDGE swimmers are often told by their amazing coaches to focus on technique, working hard, great team spirit, awesome sportsmanship, trusting the process, and of course - having fun!

Parents - it is critical that you understand that even your very own child could be placing extra excitement, and at times, expectations on themselves during championship meets. It's important that we remain relaxed, supportive, and encouraging of our swimmers throughout the next few weeks. The more we fixate on an outcome or result, the more likely we are to fail. Our chances for success improve dramatically when we continue our focus of hard work, team spirit, and having fun!

Now that we're all on the same page, let's get down to business - we have a busy, exciting, and important month!

Click  HERE for our nutrition article of the month, "Tips for Choosing Plant-Based Protein Foods" by Chris Rosenbloom, PhD, RDN fro USA Swimming's Training Tips. Our swimmers often ask coaches about ways to get more protein. This is a great article for swimmers on any diet, meat and non-meat lovers alike. Knowing about the many different sources of great protein is important for young, growing, and elite level athletes.

EDGE alumnae Anna Leffler (class of 2016), received several mentions of her strong performance as William-Smith had a double sweep of Cazenovia and Wells. Anna won two individual events, and was a member of a pool record setting medley relay.

EDGE alumnae Kira Hancock (class of 2014) had a standout performance as UVM closed it's regular season with a nail-biting victory over URI as they now prepare for the 2018 America East championship meet. Kira was a member of the 200 medley relay victory and won both the 50 and 100 freestyle.
