Great Job ORCA swimmers and parents!!
SOSC Parents decked out in their new ORCA tank tops were cheering on the swimmers at the REGIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS in SALMON ARM, February 17-18.
And the twenty-one SOSC swimmers definitely responded!!
It was loud and it was exciting, and for their effort, Summerland Orca Swim Club BOYS finished in 2nd place, and GIRLS in 4th place for a combined team score of 1396. We were less than 100 points from Kelowna Aquajets with a team of over 30 swimmers!!
ALL 21 swimmers contributed to the team points in both individual and relay events. So it was a true team effort!
We just needed a few more swimmers to attend (hint hint) and we may have accomplished our team goal of finishing in the Top 3!!
I thought the swimmers showed alot of GRIT by racing hard and swimming fast, especially Saturday afternoon. The swimmers could've folded up after only a one hour break on Saturday, but they rose to the challenge and put in some incredible night swims.
Not everything in life will go your way. But your attitude to challenging situations is in your control.
A big CONGRATULATIONS goes out to Emily Jell and Connor Berrisford who both qualified for TIER PROVINCIALS for their respective age categories. Jonas Mengr also made his 100 Breastroke Tier time and is half way to qualifying for Tier Provincials (needs 200 IM).
Breakdown of REGIONAL CHAMPS in Numbers:
138 Best Times
79x Top 3 Medal Finishes (including relays)
4x New Tier Provincial Times:
The next meet on our schedule (non-Provincial) is the March 16th Draft Meet in Penticton. For this meet, swimmers are drafted by coaches and put into 4 different teams based off their 200 IM time. It's a 1-day swim meet preluded with a swim clinic. The last meet before a week off for Spring Break.
Vernon April 6-8. One last short course meet before the start of long course swimming.
Nanaimo April 20-22: Our first team travel meet: Bus, Ferry, Hotel meet.
Let's keep the momentum going.
See you at the pool,
