The Delta Sungod Swim Club achieved a little bit of everything at last weekend’s Lower Mainland Regional Championships. Six new provincial qualifiers for the club, swimmers achieving 100% personal bests, as well as some top 8 finishes.
The meet saw 450 swimmers from across the Lower Mainland compete at Watermania pool in Richmond. DSSC swimmers showcased new and improved skills throughout the weekend in an effort to achieve personal bests and new standards of qualification.
It was a great meet for Assistant Head Coach Maxime Marechal-McCoy’s swimmers. His group represents the next group of swimmers to advance to the provincial level.
“The swimmers put together some great races. They were thoughtful in their execution and brave in the risks they took to get their times. It was lots of fun to watch,” says Marechal-McCoy.
The newest group of BC provincial qualifiers are Akashvir Singh Banghu (14) and Aurora Zheng (16) who achieved their Tier II qualifying times, while Michael Yang (12), Marcus Hugo Viloria (11), Kirra Trites (11), Chloe Merideth-Jensen (12) and Kayah Apanowicz (11) achieved their Tier I times. Tier I championships will be hosted in Penticton, while Tier II championships will be hosted in Kamloops this coming March.
Swimmers achieving 100% personal best times throughout the weekend were: Kayah Apanowicz (11), Lucas Jamias (12), Michael Yang (12) and Aurora Zheng (15). Each of these swimmers achieved new personal best times in all six of their races throughout the weekend. DSSC swimmers and coaches are proud of their ability to swim all four competitive strokes and be consistent in their efforts during races.
