Blue Wave Sends 21 to Fl. Senior Champs

Senior Champs & Other Updates

Hi All,

I know many people are not big fans of eighty plus degree weather in February, but I am. Man it makes those morning workouts so much more enjoyable. Speaking of morning workouts, this is a reminder that we will not hold a morning workout tomorrow as I will be attending the Florida Senior Championships. Practices will be held at your normally scheduled times this afternoon and Saturday.

I will post updates on the upcoming meets in March this weekend. To make this post readable, I will limit the rest of the updates to the upcoming Senior Champs meet. We have some interesting things in the works, so stay tuned!

Senior Champs

Blue Wave is sending twenty one swimmers to Florida Senior Championships, which begins later today in Orlando. The number of swimmers we are qualifying for higher level meets is just another sign of our program’s continued growth and strength. It will not be long before qualifiers turn into scorers and scorers move on to the next level to continue their development in the sport. It truly is a fun time to be a part of our club.

Here are some important meet related items:

Heat Sheets will only be made available at the pool. The cost is $20 for the entire event.

Warm Up Assignments

We will warm up in lanes 4 and 5. We have been assigned Session A. The A Session warms up on Friday & Sunday from 7:00 to 7:45am,  Saturday we warm up from 7:45 to 8:30am. Friday Morning we are in the bulkhead section. We are dive well on Saturday and the scoreboard section on Sunday.

Blue Wave Meet Timing Responsibility

As one of the larger teams in the meet, we have been assigned some timer responsibilities. We need to send one timer to the meet host on Friday and Sunday morning and two on Saturday morning. This is for the morning sessions only. Let’s define those roles by the end of tonight’s session. The last thing we want is to have coaches scrambling to find timers instead of preparing our athletes for their swims each morning. Email me if you can help out.

Revised Timeline

Florida Swimming posted a new timeline which includes the consolidated longer distance events.

Nearly half of the swimmers we are sending to this meet have the NCSA Junior National meet in mid March as their season ending focus. The other half has rested in hopes of making an individual or relay spot at that meet. The Florida Senior Champs meet is no joke. You have to swim very fast in the morning to make it back at night. We are looking for fast morning swims from all of our athletes. We are also looking to see our relay teams gel. Most importantly, we want to see the swimmers excited, motivated and sharing their energies and passions with their teammates as the meet unfolds.

Championship teams have a certain vibe. That aura doesn’t happen overnight. I saw the beginnings of that form of positive team swagger last summer when we sent a dozen swimmers to Futures, and later again at the local club meets post high school season. Let’s build on those successes and have fun, swim smart and, of course, swim FAST!

See you at the pool
