In between sessions on day one, a coach from another team approached one of our parents wearing an NJB shirt. “Wow, your team is doing great!” he said…
The 13&Overs really showed up to swim at the 2018 NJ Swimming Silver Bronze Championships at Berkeley Aquatic Center in New Providence over the weekend. Our 21 athletes joined swimmers from 18 other teams and amassed Career Best Times, Top Places, Gold and Silver Times, and a few Team Records putting an exclamation point on an already successful season.
These stats reflected our NJB athletes as a whole, not just a handful of kids. Of our 99 splashes, 68 of them (or about 68% of them) were Career Best Times. While all are worth celebrating, some were significant time drops like Hannah Calderon’s 200 IM (-5.14), Andrew Carlson’s 100 Fly (-13.58), Jessica Kiederling’s 100 Free (-6.05), Erin McLean’s 100 Back (-5.44), Sydney Mill’s 100 Fly (-5.42), Michael Rizzo’s 400 IM (-8.05) and 500 Free (-6.57), Hannah Soutter’s 200 Fly (-6.69), and Emma Waldron’s 100 Breast (-7.25). In a sport where success is often defined in 100ths of a second, our swimmers accumulated 161.57 seconds of collectively dropped time over the weekend.
A number of Barracudas fought their way to First Places. Congrats to Zach Bezold (100 Breast), Andrew Carlson (100 Fly), Jake Leddy (500 Free), and Cassidy Preste (100 Free) for earning their top spots! Other Top 3 Places were swum by Andrew Carlson (2nd in the 100 Free); Anthony Carlson (3rd in the 100 Fly); Jacob Conklin (3rd in the 200 IM); Grace Maruska (2nd in the 100 Fly and 100 Free); Syd Mills (2nd in the 100 Back, 100 Fly, and 200 Free); Cassidy Preste (2nd in the 100 Breast); Michael Rizzo (2nd in the 400 IM and 500 Free); Hannah Soutter (3rd in the 100 Fly); and Will Vetter (2nd in the 50 Free). NJB was well represented in the final results!
Congratulations to the following swimmers on setting new Team Records: Hannah Soutter (200 Fly), Jake Leddy (100 Breast), Michael Rizzo (400 IM), Syd Mills (100 Back), Andrew Carlson (200 Back), and Zach Bezold (100 Breast).
To our 13&Overs who are now finished with their season, well done! Enjoy the rest between now and Long Course, and see you at the banquet (info for both coming soon)! For those moving onto JOs and Senior Opens, practices resume…
Great job everyone!
