March 1, 2018
Well this past month has certainly flown by like a rocket! February was a blast with many great events that happened such as LMR Championships, our own Valentine's Day Mini Meet, and of course our annual Swim-A-Thon. A huge congratulations and big thank you to all those who donated. Your donation is huge in terms of buliding our team and helping it grow in the future. Moving on, the coaches would also like to share a SPECIAL CONGRATULATIONS to some swimmers in particular who stood out from their group this month:
JD BLUE S1 - SASHA BRAID
month Sasha had been doing amazing! Although she was recently moved
into my class, she has already shown great leadership and skill.
Sasha always comes to class eager to swim and always puts in 100%
effort! Great work this month Sasha :)
JD BLUE S2 - CARTER DEWOLFF
has shown many improvements this past month! He is especially
talented in his swimming, especially for his age and is an amazing
student to have in my class! His enthusiasm and effort is
contagious :) great work this month Carter!
JD BLUE S3 - ALINA PAUL
has had a wonderful February! This month has probably been her best
at swimming as she is putting all her skills together, this
includes her Freestyle, Backstroke and now Butterfly! Her push offs
on the walls have been great and that powerful kicking that she has
really puts her speed up front as being the best! I am so impressed
by Alina and good job, keep up the good work!
JD BLUE S4 - NAYA BOLINA
blues swimmer of the month is Naya Bolina! Naya is a huge team
player, whenever we do relays she cheers the loudest for her team.
Naya is a keen leaner and always tries her best at practice. She is
there for her teammates when they need her and always knows how to
make our group laugh. Congratulations Naya
JD GOLD S1 - JACK KENNEDY
past month Jack has made significant improvement in all 4 strokes
which is extremely impressive. Jack has been extremely curious in
regards to improving not only his strokes but also his speed as
well! Jack has been a very positive new team mate to his new group
and has always managed to make someone smile each class!
JD GOLD S2 - MAEGAN MACMILLLAN
has continually shown a great effort at practice, and with that
effort comes stroke improvement which is something that Coach Niamh
and I have noticed. Which is why she is our Swimmer of the Month.
She has made great adjustments to her Backstroke, keeping her head
still during her stroke and coupling it with a strong flutter kick,
which has made for a nice stroke. She is always enegergized at
practice, making it easy to coach her and give correction. Looking
forward to seeing her race at our last few Pass
AG BLUE - BODEY IVERSON
In February Bodey’s listening and attention to detail has made a complete 180! He has come to every practice wanting to learn to get his desirable best times! It was in this past month Bodey finally after a long 4 years is now able to do legal breastroke kick which is a massive accomplishment for him! Watch out world cause Bodey is ready for 200IM now!! Huge congratulations Bodey:)
AG GOLD - HEIDI COLE
AGG has done it again and made this decision almost impossible… however, the February Swimmer of the Month award goes to Heidi Cole! Heidi has been absolute pleasure to coach all season so far what with her bubbly and outgoing personality plus her hilarious energy that puts smiles on everyone's faces. But what's more than her positive spirit was the amazing hard work and progress she made this past month. She took every challenge that came her way both in the pool and at cross training. She even achieved some best times in practice! As a result, her performance at LMR Champs was phenomenal with personal bests up to 22 seconds and new Tier I qualifications in 200 Back and 200 Breast. Heidi, I can't wait to see how you'll do in Penticton next week at Tier I Championships! Keep up the great spirit and silly laughs... and I will get your cap on right ... one day.
PROVINCIAL - SASSY BUSBY
She has done it again! Sassy has continued her hard work and earned the Swimmer of the Month award for February. Her efforts in correcting and fine-tuning her technique has translated into some very positive results at LMR Champs. Not only did she gain best times in the 50, 100 and 200 Free, but the 200 IM as well - and by 7 seconds! The IM improvement in particular was a very impressive indicator of her progressive in all 4 strokes and the various turns involved in each. Keep up the hard work Sassy and never give up!
NATIONAL - THOMAS KRANJC
Thomas Kranjc has been nominated as swimmer of the month for the National group.
Thomas has displayed a very good work ethic over the last few months. He has set some very high goals and it has been very exciting watching him reach some of these goals. Most recently, after recovery from a very severe flu that landed him in the hospital on an IV drip for dehydration, he came back two weeks later and swam at the PSW winter fest. He performed two best times in his 100 fly and 400 IM, narrowly missing his western cut by less than a tenth of a second. But he came back 20 mins later and won the boys 16 and Under 50 free. We have enjoyed watching him set very high goals for himself at the various meets he has attended. And watched him slowly reach some of these goals. Congratulations Thomas we look forward to your performances in Victoria at the Western Canadian Championships. Keep up the good work Thomas.
