Championship Season is here and the Raiders are stepping up!
Over in Worthington, Ohio, fourteen of our brave 8 & unders are swimming at the Barbara Kay Mini Meet. Sometimes referred to as the “8 & under State Championships”, Ross Melton, 8, from Bellbrook blazes his way to the Gold in the 25 Breast (:19.25), surpassing the Raider team record held by Matthew Abeysinghe since 2005. Abeysinghe was a 2016 Olympian for Sri Lanka and is one of the top swimmers at this week’s Big Ten Championships for the Ohio State University. Way to go, Ross!
Over 40 of our “big kids” are in Tennessee swimming against many of the best teams throughout the Midwest and South at the 2018 Southern Premier. At last night’s finals, Maggie Berning, 18, the fastest female swimmer to ever go through the Kettering School District, and a top recruit for Ohio University Bobcats this coming fall, broke the all-time Raider OPEN record in the 200 Fly (1:59.34). She lowered her own team record she set last year. Way to go, Maggie. Over on the boys’ side, Cody Bybee was a monster Saturday night. He hauled in 3 individual gold medals (200 Fly 1:46.11, 50 Free 20.34, and 500 Free 4:22.82), and with fellow teammates also helped the Raiders win two thriller golds in both the 200 Medley Relay (1:29.69) and 400 Free Relay (3:00.70).
