Season Wrap-up

After a meet like this weekend's amazing show of events it reminds us why we do what we do. How many kids we saw cheering each other on, making new friends, reaching out to competitors from past meets and other teams, and how many times we heard "this is my favorite meet of the swim season!" are all great motivators for us coaches. Attached are a few pictures from the deck on Saturday and Sunday, and here are a few of this weekend's greatest accomplishments: Maeve Littlefield- beat our 11-12 record for 50 free with a time of 27.16 (from 27.18 from 2001, close cut, great job!), Rudi Schnetzer beat our senior boys 50 free record with a time of 22.27 (from 2008's 22.46, another close cut!), Kayla Payson beat our 100 fly record for the second time this season, as did our 11-12 200 free relay team (Maeve Littlefield, Romy Lafage, Mia Winslow and Finley Marriner beat the 200 free record for the second time this season!) and several swimmers were just seconds away from some records at the state meet- we will be reviewing all times from this season's meets in the month to come so we can order new record boards. Overall at the state meet Bluefish finished 9th out of the 16 Maine YMCA swim teams. Congratulations Bluefish!

Thank you to the Bluefish who volunteered at Special Olympics- we cannot run an event without volunteers and it is SO AWESOME to see our swim team gibing back to the community in such a big way. Thank you to Kayla Payson, Jillian Clapp, Kerrigan and Olivia Smith, Dani Hicock, Avery Emerson and Ada Curry. If there are some of you we missed let us know! We are so grateful to have such responsible team mates as yourselves.

Congratulations to the 18 folks who have made cut times in order to continue swimming- for both YMCA and USA swimming. We wish the best of luck to all swimmers who are participating in the meets to come, and hope for some more records!

As for everyone else, thank you SO MUCH for your participation in our 2017-18 Bluefish season. Stay tuned for banquet information- this event will be held on Sunday, April 8th, it will begin at 4 pm and run approximately two hours. Any remaining ribbons from the mailboxes will be given out at this time, in addition to State/NE/National ribbons, trophies and medals, and Splash-a-thon prizes. We would like to run a slideshow during the banquet, if anyone has any pictures from any events please send them in to us via email! This event requires each group to bring some offering for a pot-luck style grazing. More specific info to follow along with a TeamUnify job signup for the banquet.

Finally, with the impending storm tomorrow the YMCA will be closed all day. Thank you all and we will see you soon!
