SHORT COURSE SEASON COMING TO A
We continued our wonderful short course season with superb swimming at two meets over the past month. Twenty-four swimmers represented CMSA at the Southeastern Swimming (SES) Short Course Championships in Huntsville, held Feb. 23-25. Our athletes stepped up to the competition (over 900 athletes from 65 teams at SES) and swam their way to an 8th place team finish. Our girls team finished in 5thplace, while the boys raced to a 10th place finish.
In age group competition, our 11-12 girls outpaced the competition, winning the 11-12 Girls Age Group Team Championship. Congrats to Sallie Herndon, Isabella Lord, Harper McLean and Lillian Ringold on their championship. I’m sure these young ladies will tell you they could not have accomplished this feat without the support of their team mates, especially their fellow Junior groupers who push them to their best every day.
CMSA swimmers and relays achieved 80% lifetime best times for the meet; which was the highest percentage of best times from all teams in the meet - the meet average was 63%. Also, our athletes ranked #1 overall in points scored per athlete.
Drew Jordan (13) set the pace for the BigFish in individual event championships, winning the 100 and 200 butterfly, the 400 IM and the 1,650 freestyle events for 13-14 boys. On the girls’ side, Lucy O’Neill (14) won the 500 freestyle event for 13-14 girls.
