Congratulations to all swimmers who had great performances at the Feb. 16 – 18 12 & Under District Champ Meet and the Feb. 23 – 25 13 & Older Region Champ meet. SEVA WON BOTH MEETS by overwhelming margins. Our swimmers were impressive!!!! At the two meets, SEVA swimmers earned over 50 new Virginia Age Group Champ and Virginia Senior Champ qualifying times. GREAT JOB!!
At the just completed Virginia Senior Champs and Virginia Age Group Champs, a largely young and first time group of swimmers raced like they were veterans. At Senior Champs CJ Omweg lead the way by making new Junior National qualifying times in the 200 Back, 200 Breast and 200 IM and Landon Potter earned the qualifying time in the 200 Fly. AWESOME!!!
At last weekends Virginia Age Group Champs, SEVA was lead by Matthew Potter who won six events and was second in two more to earn High Point honors in the 11 – 12 Boys age group. JJ Barad finished 2nd in the 13 – 14 boys High Point race. SEVA had 23 swimmers participate in this state championship meet. KICKIN BUTT IMPRESSIVE!!!
This week (departing today, March 12th) sees 6 swimmers from SEVA heading to Junior Nationals in Orlando, Florida. This Tuesday thru Saturday meet is the largest and fastest in the United States each year. Good luck to Brieanna Romney, Katy Nunez, Nick Talati, Landon Potter, CJ Omweg and Carter Bunting. WE KNOW YOU WILL MAKE US PROUD!!!
The rest of March has additional Championship Meets for SEVA swimmers that have ”A” & faster times and also the start of the Long Course season for our A/BB/B/C swimmers. Good luck to our swimmers that will be competing in the Championship meets listed below and the first Long Course meet of that season on March 24 - 25 at Midtown that SEVA is sponsoring/hosting.
March 13 – 17, 2018 National Club Swimming Association (NCSA) Junior Nationals, Orlando, Florida. Swimmers that have at least one qualifying time may add up to 2 bonus swims as long as they have the Bonus qualifying time. This meet is for 13 & Older swimmers. This meet has been the fastest Junior National (18 & Under) competition in the United States for the last 17 years.
On Tuesday, the 200 Free Relay, 200 Medley relay and 1000 Free are held as timed finals with a 2:15 pm “On Deck Time” for warm-ups and a 4:00 pm start. On Wednesday through Saturday, preliminaries are in the morning with a 6:30 am wake-up swim taking place followed by the remainder of the swimmers warm-up close to their first event of the day. The meet starts at 8:30 am each morning. For Finals, the “On Deck Time” is 4:45 pm and the meet starts at 6:00 pm.
March 22 – 25, 2018 Eastern Zone Southern Region Sectional Meet at Christiansburg/Va. Tech Aquatic Center. Swimmers must have at least one qualification time. For swimmers that have one or two qualifying times, they can add up to two bonus events. Swimmers with three qualification times, one bonus event can be added. Swimmers with four or more qualifying times, no bonus events are given. Thursday is a distance event time final day. Preliminaries and Finals take place for events on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. On Thursday, “On Deck Time” is 3:00 pm and the meet starts at 4:30 pm. On Friday, Saturday and Sunday, the preliminary “On Deck Time” is at 7:30 am and the meet starts at 9:00 am. The Finals “On Deck Time” is 4:45 pm and the session starts at 6:00 pm.
March 24 – 25: (Long Course) SEVA Head Start Long Course Meet at Midtown sponsored by SEVA. All swimmers with “A”, “BB”, “B” & “C” times will be entered. All 10 & Younger and 11 – 12 Girls will compete in the morning session (6:45 am “On Deck Time, Meet starts at 8:00 am). The afternoon session has the 11 – 12 Boys and ALL 13 & Older swimmers competing (10:45 am “On Deck Time”, 12:00 noon start). There will be an 800 Free session on Saturday afternoon and a 400 Free session on Sunday afternoon)
If your swimmer participated in the Virginia Senior or Age Group Champ meet and this was their only meet of the month, we will enter them in this long course meet. If your swimmer will be attending Sectionals, NCSA Junior National or the Elite Showcase Classic meet (14 & Under) in St. Petersburg, Florida, they will NOT be entered in this meet.
March 28 – 31, 2018 Elite Showcase Classic Meet at the North Shore Aquatic Complex in St. Petersburg, Florida. Swimmers who are 9 to 14 years old can participate as long as they have at least one qualifying time. See qualifying times posted to this meet on our web site. In general, if your swimmer is 10, 12, or 14 years old, the qualifying times are almost or at AAA times. If your swimmer is 9, 11 or 13 years old, the qualifying times are between A and slightly faster than AA. Swimmers can compete in up to 10 individual events. A swimmer that has one qualifying time can enter 4 additional bonus events. A swimmer that has two or more qualifying times can enter up to three additional bonus events as long as they do not compete in more than ten events. All four days has preliminaries in the morning and finals in the evening.
Public School Spring Break: Each year the Peninsula Public School Systems have scheduled Spring Break for the beginning of April. SEVA will continue our policy of taking this week off from offering practices. The last practice that will be offered going into spring break will be on Friday, March 30th. The Senior Prep and Age Group Elite Groups will NOT have Pivot training on Friday, March 30th will resume practices on Monday, April 9th.
