Day 1 was a great start.
Brandy lead things off with a best time in the 100 free dropping 3 seconds to a 55.52. Cali knocked off 2 seconds in her 200 breast (2:20.03) during prelims and then came back for finals and dominated her heat going a 2:16.93. She was 3 seconds under the winter junior nationals cut and moved from 31st to 12th! Brandy then swam the 200 fly dropping to a 2:04.75 in prelims, then in finals she raced to a 2:03.13 good enough for 13th overall, moving up from 26th! The girls first relay was the 800 free (Brandy, Cali, Haley & Daphne). They went a best time dropping 3 seconds with Daphne coming from behind to pass 2 teams and take 2nd place in the heat, 32nd overall.
Day 2 was a little slow at the start but picked up towards the end.
Prelims 200 free relay was a little off but Haley came into a time trials swim in the 100 free and went from a 57.78 to a 56.29! The girls came back later that night to swim the 200 MR going a best time of 1:49.88 taking them from 51st to 34th.
Day 3 had some energy back.
Cali started with the 100 breast racing to a 1:02.90 ( .01 ) off the junior nationals cut. Brandy swam a best time in the 100 fly 57.55 and Cali broke a minute swimming a 59.14. Haley time trialed the 100 back and went 1:01.22 a best time! Cali came back for finals that night hungry for the junior nationals time. She has been slowly chipping away at that time since last year and finally put it all together earning her trip to Irvine, California in August, going a 1:02.58 finishing 11th overall !!
Day 4 came around and the girls were tired but in good spirits.
The 200 IM's from Cali and Brandy were just off their best times but Daphne had the swim of the day! Daphne has been chasing the 50 free futures cut (24.39) for some time now. She needed to drop .07 to get it and with the best swim of her life got the cut going 24.26, winning her heat (outside smoke in lane 8) and moving from 71st to 34th!! The 400 MR was racing for the first ever futures cut for the Dragons. They came up just a bit short but Haley swam another best time in the back going underwith a 1:00.94! The relay is just .09 off the cut and will have more chances throughout the long course summer season to get it. Always something more to chase.
It was a really fun 4 days of fast swimming. We accomplished most of our goals and are looking forward to long course this summer. I am stoked to take a lot more next year as we continue to improve!
