GSSC President’s Message

Dear GSSC Families

The entire GSSC Board would like to welcome returning families back to the pool for the 2018 season and welcome our new families to the community. We are less than 2 months from the opening day which always seems to fly by. This is your official "heads-up" to get your bathing suits ready and get plenty of sunscreen in anticipation of another season of wonderful memories at our club.

This will be my family's 20th year as members of the club, and my 6th and final year as your club President. When we first signed up for the pool, there was a 3-year waiting list (sound familiar?). When we received the call to join the club, we were beyond elated. My children all swam Speedy Sixers through their young adult years. No records were broken but I can tell you that the years we spent at our club have been some of the more memorable of our lives. The club has provided my family with a safe and consistent venue for a wide range of activities. It has also helped us form important relationships with a diverse community, many who we still call close friends.

I am grateful for our club and grateful for the opportunity to serve as your President for two terms. My goal for this year will be to set up processes (back-end tasks) that will create minimal friction for transitioning board members and processes that outlast a single board members term. Doing so will allow present and future board members to have tried and true measures to facilitate their responsibilities so they are able to spend more time focusing on matters that are more visible to members (front-end tasks).

May you have a wonderful spring and I look forward to seeing old friends and meeting new friends at the club this season.

Summer Jobs Available

Hello Gator Families!

I’m very much looking forward to another great season at the club.  It was great seeing many of you at the first annual “Winter Swim” event in January.  I was extremely surprised at the turnout and the level of excitement by all who participated.  I can say this is something that I’d like to continue-on as a GSSC tradition.

As is always the case, the board and I always want to ensure that each families experience is a safe and positive one at GSSC.  Whether you’re enjoying time in the warm pool with your kids, hitting the courts for a set of tennis or barbecuing with family and friends, the GSSC staff and I are there to serve you and see to it that your time spent here is enjoyable one.

We had a very successful lessons program last season—with a not often 4th session of lessons offered.  The staff and I would like to continue to build upon that success and continue to offer quality lessons.  I’m hopeful that this season we’ll be able to offer dive lessons.  I know that this was lacking last season (no instructor), but we hope to offer at least beginning and intermediate dive for those who are interested.

From a staffing standpoint, many of last year’s employees are coming back.  So, you’ll see many familiar faces this season.  One of my goals is to make connections between the staff and members.  After all, almost all the staff are members too and it’s important that a friendly and approachable relationship is maintained between the various staff and all the members.

Lastly, I will be getting the master calendar/schedule out sooner than last year.  This includes key dates such as lessons session dates (and sign-ups).  Look for that soon via email and Facebook.

Thanks, and see you soon.

Work Parties

The two pre-season work parties will be on Saturday, May 5th and Sunday, May 6th. The times for both days are 9AM to 3PM. These work parties will be held rain or shine, so be prepared to work regardless of weather conditions.

These work parties give you an opportunity to fulfill your family’s required four (4) hours of maintenance work and provide the much-needed work force to get the pool ready for opening day. Other maintenance opportunities are available throughout the summer season but will be on a case-by-case basis and must be arranged with VP Mike Joyal. There is also an end-of-season work party in September, so members unable to work any other time will still have an additional chance to fulfill their maintenance obligation.

Very Important:  If a family plans to have one or more of their children attend the work party, they MUST be 12 years or older to participate.

PLEASE NOTE: Members not fulfilling the maintenance requirement by September 30, 2018 will be assessed a $75.00 maintenance fee. Also, if you do not plan to attend any of the work parties, you can also pay the fee up front.

For more information on the work parties or any other facility-related questions/concerns, please contact VP Mike Joyal,

Final Note

We are currently seeking a Concessions Chair for the 2018 season.  It is a one-year term that offers a paid membership in return.  Also, our Teams Coordinator position and Teams Data Entry position will expire at the end of this 2018 season, if you are interested in either of those positions we will have you shadow the current members holding those positions. Both Concessions Chair and Team Coordinator are board positions.  Please contact Charlene Li, Secretary, if you have interest in any of these positions at

Our pool and our programs are successful because of your membership.  We look forward to a wonderful season and getting to know you and your families and your friends.  Don’t hesitate to let us know how we can better serve you and share with us your experiences and ideas.  Together we are a community pool.
