The 12u State Team had a great weekend out in Zeeland, finishing in 5th place overall.
PCC had 12 individual qualifiers and 10 relay swimmers, well rounded with five 10u girls, four 10u boys, eight 11-12 girls, and five 11-12 boys.
The 12u State Meet one of the first real pressure/performance competitions that our young swimmers face. It is very competitive and is truly a great competition where it’s not easy to rise to the top. We had a great group of young athletes who worked very hard to qualify and swim fast at the 12u State Meet.
At each practice leading up to the state meet, we talked about the responsibility and privilege of swimming at the State Meet. We have almost 100 11-12 and 10u swimmers on PCC, and only 22 were fast enough this year to represent the whole team at the 12u State Meet… and they did great!
In scoring, the Cruiser ladies led the way. Hannah Gurgel (10), Natalie Tabar (12), and Tayla Smith (10) scored 110, 89, and 88 points, respectively. Hannah won the 10u girls high point award as well as the 100IM, 200IM, 200 Free, and 500 Free! Natalie Tabar was the state champion in the 11-12 500 free and 1650 free, where she set a new PCC team record and qualified for the Central Zone Sectional meet this summer. Tayla Smith won the 10u girls 100 breaststroke.
Ocean Taylor (11), Franklin Jaramilla (10), Daniel Shi (10), and Sadhu Rajesh (11) also scored points for the team in their individual events. Ocean qualified for finals in all six of her individual races and scored 32 points, including a 7th place podium finish in the 50 free. Franklin also scored in all 6 of his races for 30 team points, including a 7th place podium finish in the 500 free. Daniel and Sadhu each scored in two individual events for 8 points each.
Our other individual qualifiers swam great races and contributed heavily to our team points through relays! Claire Hammill (12), Ella Hornbacher (12), Ellie Newman (12), Adrian Salgado (12) and Marcus Vlad (12) all swam multiple individual races.
In addition to the swimmers mentioned above, Gabrielle Jaramilla (8), Veda Keshavmurthy (10), Daniela Yuk (9), Kaden Hung (9), Talan Litner (10), Amelia Pan (11), Valerie Pierzecki (12), Emilio Herrero, Laken Hung (11), and David Huang (11) all drove out to Zeeland to join forces and represent PCC relay teams!
PCC relay teams scored 146 total points! Our highest finish was the 10u Girls 200 Free Relay team of Hannah, Daniela, Tayla, and Veda. They finished in 2nd place overall. The 10u Girls 200 Medley team of Tayla, Gabrielle, Hannah, and Veda and the 11-12 Girls 200 Freestyle relay team of Ocean, Sadhu, Claire, and Natalie both finished in 6th place. The 11-12 Girls 200 Medley relay team of Sadhu, Ocean, Claire, and Natalie finished in 7th. The 10u Boys relays almost climbed onto the podium, where Franklin, Talan, Kaden, and Daniel finished with 9th and 11th place ribbons. Showing some team depth, both our 11-12 Girls relay B teams scored in their events, finishing in 16th and 15th place. Our 11-12 Boys relays didn’t score points this year, but they did improve their seed times after just barely qualifying for the meet.
GREAT JOB 12U CRUISERS!
