YFD Sizzles at ISCA NE Championships!
YFD Sizzles at ISCA NE Championships!
Congratulations to everyone who attended the first annual ISCA Northeast Showcase in Connecticut last weekend! The meet was an overwhelming success, and YFD walked away placing second overall—a mere 54.5 points away from the overall title.
What was even more exciting was seeing the camaraderie among teammates spanning from AGI to Senior National. The response from other coaching staffs, parents, and officials regarding our team spirit was incredible. Heat after heat in the championship finals featured YFD swimmers in the pool and their teammates lining the lanes cheering them on.
Naturally that resulted in some very fast swimming! Forty-seven of the 53 swimmers in attendance swam in finals and scored points for the team. The following swimmers took home first-place finishes: Stella Anderson (50 Back), Shawn Beaman (100, 200 Free), Victoria Echavarria (50 & 100 Free, 100 & 200 Breast, 100 Back), Devon French (200 Fly), Rose Korff (50 Fly), Kyle Malloy (100 Breast, 200 Fly), Jagger Stachtiaris (50 Back, 200 Back), Alexander Stewart (100, 200 Breast), Quincy Topping (50 Back). Furthermore, we were able to field a ton of relays that really racked up the points for us!
There was an onslaught on the 15-18 team record board as Devon French and Teddy Poncet combined to take down eight of the men’s records alone. Juliette Bichon added an individual record as well, and both the women’s and men’s 400 freestyle relays set new team marks! Way to go guys!
New Team Records:
Devon French-50, 100, 200 Free, 200 Back, 200 Fly, 200 IM
Teddy Poncet-1000, 1650 Free
Juliette Bichon-200 IM

For the first time, we had the swimmers vote on which of their peers stood out in terms of performance, team spirit, or sportsmanship. Each of the winners received a personalized meet t-shirt with all their teammates’ signatures on it. Congrats to the winners of each age group:

10 & under: Olivia Michalik
11-12: Rose Korff
13-14: Max Sellami
15-18: Juliette Bichon
Overall: Devon French.
We held a team dinner on Saturday to celebrate and over 100 swimmers and family members showed up! It was so much fun to get together away from the chlorine fumes and enjoy each other’s company.

Thank you to all the families who made the trip out to Connecticut and for all the volunteer timers. It was a great way to wrap up the short course season for many swimmers! We hope you enjoy your spring break and we look forward to getting back to work for the long course season! Go YFD!
