The 2018 Western Section Section Championship meet is always one of the more exciting meets on the THSC racing calendar! This year’s edition did not disappoint at all in the excitement category. The Men placed 2nd to KING, while the women placed 5th behind Fort Collins Area Swim Team, KING, Bellevue, and Lake Oswego. Overall combined, the THSC men and women placed 4th.
The first day of the meet started out with the 1000yd freestyle. THSC’s first individual point scorer was Trent Martinez, placing 5th with a VERY STRONG last 100 in a time of 9:17.59.

Not to end the excitement there, the 800yd freestyle relays provided their own level of excitement, as well. The men’s A relay of Ethan Luc, Caspar Corbeau, Marco Nosack, and Trent Martinez literally swam away from the rest of the field, winning their race in a time of 6:34.90 and setting a new meet record!
One of the MANY highlights of the meet for THSC was Friday evening in finals. THSC entered the men’s 200 yd free event with the TOP 3 SEEDS! Finishing 2nd was Ethan Luc (1:36.63), 4th was Trent Martinez (1:37.93), and 7th was Caspar Corbeau (1:39.12)!!! It was an exciting race for sure!
On the women’s side, Elizabeth continued her assault on her personal bests, placing 5th in a best time of 1:48.76, whild Sofia Nosack proved once again that she was ready to roll, placing 11th with a time of 1:50.67. The third day of any meet is always tough. Everyone is tired and everyone is sore. This is especially true of day three of a championship meet! Saturday started out with the 100yd backstroke. With Sofia Nosack and Tia Lindsay swimming in finals for THSC (19th and 27th respectively) we were off to a solid start. Following up on the strong swims from Sofia and Tia, Elizabeth Cook placed 10th in the 500yd freestyle, and Angie Lindsay placed 16th. Also, swimming the 500 right after completing the 100 backstroke, Sofia Nosack and Tia Lindsay placed 19th and 26th, completing a VERY tough individual double for the evening!
On the men's side, Trent Martinez, SMASHED his best time from the morning by 4 seconds to place 3rd with 4:25.72, and Marco Nosack decided to see just of hard he could open up the race and hung on tough for a 21st place finish, just missing sub 4:40!
Speaking of going out strong, Jessica Maeda opened up her 100yd breaststroke quite quickly and faded a bit, but still swam a very solid race, placing 15th.
Another highlight of the meet was the men’s 100yd breaststroke! Not only did Caspar Corbeau WIN THE EVENT! But he TIED FOR THE WIN with Daniel Roy, who’s the defending World Junior Champion in the 200m breaststroke! It literally came down to the last stroke and both swimmers managed to get their hands on the wall at exactly the same time!
The last event of the evening was the 100yd Butterfly. Placing 7th, Elizabeth Cook was just off a best time, while Fay Marie Lustria scored more valuable points for the team with her 21st place finish!
The last day of the meet only had 3 individual swims. In the women’s 200yd IM, Fay Lustria finished out her meet in scoring position with a 22nd place finish, while Caspar Corbeau placed 7th.
Also on the last day, the THSC 1650 swimmers of Sofia Nosack, Davis Bruton, and Nalex Young all swam best times, placing 14th, 28th and 29th, respectively, with EXTREMELY STRONG swims!
In the last individual event of the meet, the 50yd free, Lizzy Cook placed 11th, and Caspar Corbeau and Ethan Luc closed out their individual events with 2nd and 7th place finishes.
In the 400yd medley relays, the women’s A team of Sofia Nosack, Jessica Maeda, Fay Lustria, and Elizabeth finished 7th, and the men's A relay of Sam Donchi, Caspar Corbeau, Uriel Tejeda, and Ethan Luc placed 3rd.
Overall, it was a very strong meet for THSC and hopefully everyone is excited about the season and ready to get back to work and get ready for a killer summer one! Great Job Everyone!
