Spring Start-UP Letter for Team TRITON

What a great end to the 2017-18 short course season!

This past season, Team TRITON placed 4th overall as a team….  13&O girls were 3rd & the 12&U girls were 2nd within the state.  During the State Championships, Hannah Schmidt placed 1st and Kaylee Vander Velden placed 2nd in the 10&U girls high point race.  What great performances by all at the Kentucky Swimming State Championship.

During the season, we were recognized by USA Swimming as a Silver Medal Club within the club excellence program.  Also, we had 2 athletes qualify for the National Team Select Camp in Colorado Springs, Colorado.  Congratulations need to be given to Claire Donan and Will Tarvestad!!!

There are so many positive highlights from the past season.  So, I would like to hit upon a few performances showing the development going on within the program.   Congratulations to Will Tarvestad on being the high school MVP and being the first boy in the State of Kentucky going under 20 seconds in 50 Free by achieving a time of 19.94!!!  We had Claire Donan going 1:59.63 in the 200 IM.   I know one of the big treats for me and was seeing Tonner Debeer being recognized as the Midway University/KHSAA Female Athlete of the Year!

Congratulations to all of our High School Seniors and there school decisions for next year: As of Friday March 30, 2018

Tonner Debeer – Vanderbilt University

Sean Gilpatrick – Centre College

Savannah Gupton – Centre College

Madelynn Hall – Centre College

Ali Id Lougssiyr – Baldwin Wallace University

Joshua McOmber – Brigham Young University

Alan Ocheretner – Indiana University

Overall, we are moving in the right direction!   We are in the process of overhauling our group move-up/placement procedures.  They are not concrete for decisions to be made for the benefit of the athlete.  There will be an attendance, practice performance and meet performance component for all training groups.  Right now, we only have a meet performance piece.

We are also looking at improving the paradigm relationship for the athlete/swimmer, coach and parent.  This will done through meetings and communication by the coaching staff to give understanding of the process and planning to see all TRITON Swimmers develop into great swimmers but also great individuals!

As we move into the spring training time, we have made some schedule adjustments to make sure all training groups have plenty of room in the 9 lane long course set up within the practice schedule sent out to the team.

During the long course season, we will be going back to the swimmer/parent signing up for meets including all championships.

We will soon unveil our Senior Leadership Committee after our return from Spring Break.  Team Captains will announced along with the committee.

We will also unveil the updated Parent/Social Committee after our return from Spring Break.  This committee will be tasked in bringing social events together in helping with FUN aspect of all training groups.

The last item to be addressed will be announced next week on how we are going to proceed with weights and dry lands for the spring and summer training.

I am looking forward to seeing Team TRITON have an even better Long Course Season with many more success stories to be shared!
