CSC finishes 14th at National Level Meet in Orlando!

The words “Clovis Swim Club” were on the tip of many tongues over the course of the 5 days of competition at the NCSA Junior National Championships in Orlando, Florida, March 13-17.

As a team, we finished 14th (out of 112 total teams in the meet!).  Our women’s team finished 10th and our men finished 32nd!  The combined team and women’s team finish are an improvement upon last year’s finishes at the short course meet!

Qualifying for this meet is difficult in the big picture as many of the times to qualify are faster than qualifying for the CIF State Meet and scoring point is even more difficult as only 24 swimmers in each event score, while there are far more than 200 swimmers in nearly every event.

Here’s how we stacked up individually:

Isabella A – Recorded mostly best times, including a big drop in the 200 fly, which yielded Issie’s first ever Summer Junior National cut and a top 20 finish!

Joseph A – Kicked our meet off with a bang when he improved more than 7 seconds in his 1000 free!

Ian B – Gained invaluable experience in his first national level competition and recorded a best time in the 50y breast!

Brooke C – Despite being sick, she was nearly all best times and helped her relay to an 8th placed finish on the 400 free relay!

Cole F – Heat winner and best time in the 200 free and 200 fly, while contributing to all of the team’s scoring relays!

Ben F – Over 3 second improvement in the 500 free and “oh-so-close” in all of his other events, but his best contributions came on his relay swims!

Jordan G – Best time in the 50 and 100 free and split well on all of her relay duties, including the scoring 800 free relay!

Ella G – Learned sooo much from the experience, while her best swims came together on the 200 free and 400 free relays!

Gabe J – His bonus events were hugely successful as he wowed in the 50 fly and 50 back, the latter earning him a spot and a best time as the backstroker in the 400 medley relay!

Michael J – Best result came as his 19th placed finish in the 50y fly, but his most impressive swim came in his 100 fly, with a new best time!

Austin L – His biggest highlight was arguably the best time and first ever Summer Junior National cut in the 200y backstroke, but he also broke :50 in the 100 back and also swam 23.1 in the back leg of our 200 medley relay!

Charli P – In her NCSA debut, she put together solid swims across the board, including swimming under her best time in the 50 free on the B 200 free relay!

Averee P – Hit 2 big milestones as she broke 10:00 in the 1000 free (9:51, finished 5th overall) and broke 2:00 in the 200 fly 1:59.22, finished 15th over all), while she also inched closer to breaking 2:00 in the 200 IM!

Abby S – Big part of our scoring relay swims, as always; however, her biggest highlight was breaking the :50s barrier in the 100y free for the first time, which was good enough to win the consolation heat!

Claire T – NCSA Women's Gold Medalist in the 200 free and the 500 free; however, the swim which first earned her way to the NCSA All-Star trip to Ireland in April was the 1000 free, as she improved by 11.9 seconds for a 3rd placed finish!

Our team had some great experiences at the meet that surpass those involved in the results, like team building, beach fun, and meeting Katie Ledecky in the airport!  These meets are, in some manner of speaking, once in a lifetime opportunties!
