Age Group Regionals Review
Age Group Regionals
By Coach Tabor

Last Thursday March 22nd, we had 7 swimmers qualify for Age Group Regionals where they traveled to Federal Way, Washington and competed at an Olympic size pool.  We started off with the boys 400 free relay seeded 14th with a 3:31.99.  Levi Jorgenson lead off the relay going 50.19 earning an individual Age Group Regional. Hunter Bartoo, Jan Peeters Weem & Duncan Reasoner following his lead, swimming great legs, dropping their time to a 3:24.72 moving into 7th place & earning a Senior Sectionals cut.

The boys would come back on Saturday for the 200 free relay. They raced to another best time dropping 1.30 seconds swimming a 1:34.03 holding strong to their 13th position.

On Friday, Sydney McDonald, who is in the purple group, posted her first (of many to come) experience at the King Aquatic Center! The first time at an Olympic pool is always an eye opening experience and the more experienced gold group swimmers did a great job keeping her comfortable & having fun.  Sydney had a 50 free to race & race she did. She came in seeded 23rd with a 29.78 and won her heat dropping to a 28.53 and moving up to 9th overall! She had an epic swim & got through that all important first swim at a big pool in a big meet.

Friday also had Hunter & Luci Brenner racing the 50 free which they both went best times.

Jordan Bohms had swims each day of the meet but was just a little off with the mile looming as her last swim Sunday afternoon.  I was impressed with how she came back and got herself into a good mental state for her mile. With her last 2 swims being really rough she came out determined to get a best time. Her first 200 was the fastest I have seen from her and I knew at that point a best time was coming. She finished with a 9 second time drop (18:46.05 )! A really big swim for her and no better way to finish her season.

Luci swam the 100 back coming into it in 15th at a 1:01.31 and dropped to a 1:00.58 moving into 3rd place! Not only a best time and moving up but she now holds the team record in the 100 back!

Luci also went a best time in the 200 IM & 200 free and made a finals appearance in the 100 & 200 back.
Luci came back between each of her prelims and finals swims to support all of her teammates in their time trials, individual and relay races. After counting for Jordan in the mile, she turned around for the next heat and counted for another 20 minutes for someone she did not know because their counter did not show.  Luci reached her physical & mental limit in the meet and I could not be more proud and she earned the coveted coaches bag tag. Luci personified the kind of athlete & human being the Dragons want to represent our club.

Congratulations again to all the athletes who qualified for Age Group Regionals.  You did AWESOME!

Long course is next!  Stay Stoked!
